Tommy Milner and No. 64 Corvette C7.R Crash at Le Mans

In the early morning light with a little over 8 hours to go in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Corvette Racing’s Tommy Milner went off course and struck a tire barrier on the Dunlop chicane. Tommy was okay and was able to exit the car, but the wreck has put an end to the hopes of the No. 64 Corvette C7.R team to repeat last year’s championship in GTE-Pro.

The crash happened on the car’s 219 lap. As Milner was coming through the Dunlop chicane, we see the brakes locked and then he was suddenly off track and nose first into the tires. In a post race interview, he apologized to the team saying he was disappointed their race came to an end this way.

The No.63 Corvette C7.R is still in the race and is now in P8. However, the car is several laps down and has never had the same pace as the class leaders.

Corvette Racing released this official quote from Tommy Miler following his return to the garage:

TOMMY MILNER, NO. 64 KONICA MINOLTA/MOBIL 1/SIRIUS-XM CHEVROLET CORVETTE C7.R:

“First and foremost, I’m happy to be in a Corvette. This Corvette Racing team and the group at Chevrolet build the safest cars. We’ve seen some big wrecks here over the years and all our drivers have walked away fine. So I feel fortunate in that regard. I’m pretty disappointed that our race has ended the way it has. You never want to be in the car when something like that happens. We had just made some setup changes to try and get some more speed out of the car. It was just driver error. I should have done a better job of keeping the car under control but couldn’t do it today. I’m just disappointed for my teammates and the crew guys for having our race end like this. You always want to finish the race no matter what. So it’s definitely disappointing.”
