For a Corvette seller and a Corvette buyer, the Lucky Collector Car Auction held this past August 30 & 31 just outside of Tacoma, Washington was appropriately named. The lucky seller went home with a large check while the lucky buyer is the new owner of a numbers matching 1963 Corvette fuelie roadster.
The headline is not a typo or a joke — a price for anything that includes seven digits is a serious matter and especially so for a car that hasn’t been started since 1967. Our friends at roadtrippers.com noticed this ad on eBay and understandably wondered if the ad and the car were legitimate. Certainly it’s not every day that you see a price that high on eBay, but it’s not even close to the highest eBay sale on record—that belongs to a Frank Mulders designed, 405-foot yacht that sold for $168,000,000 in 2006.
Vicari Auctions recently announced that two very rare, unrestored Corvettes will cross the block at their Nocona, Texas auction running April 19th and 20th, 2013. The 1962 big brake fuelie and 1963 Z06 have been stored by a collector since Ronald Reagan was President and still remain in almost all-original condition.
Another classic Corvette from the John Justo collection was this Black 1962 Corvette roadster that crossed Mecum’s Kissimmee auction block on Friday, January 25th. Highly optioned and a multiple award winner, the last year C1 Corvette sold for $242,000.
Mecum Auctions will offer over 100 Corvettes for sale this week as part of their annual fall St. Charles auction. Velocity will provide 12 hours of live auction coverage from the event.
As Christmas quickly approaches we’re sure most of you are busy attacking the malls and online stores like we are grabbing sweaters, gifts cards and such. What if shopping was more fun? Say everyone on your list wanted a Corvette and money was no option? Fact: Corvette shopping is way more fun than regular shopping. To support this we made a list of significant cars and checked it twice. You can check it out too after the break.
As part of Chevrolet’s Centennial celebration, GM Performance Parts’ Dr. Jamie Myers was given the difficult challenge of putting together a list of models that has defined Chevy Performance over the last 100 years. It’s a difficult task for sure, so Dr. Meyers visits the GM’s Heritage center where he presents his list of six classic vehicles that defined street performance.
RM Auctions descended on Gainesville, Georgia last week to sell one of the largest muscle car collections in the country. Milton Robson’s style was to collect the highest performance vehicle in the model year and series. In his 55-car collection, two Corvettes met his criteria: a 1967 427/435 hp Corvette and the very rare 1957 Corvette with Ramjet airbox fuel injection. There were just 43 factory airbox Corvettes built in 1957 and less than half that amount are believed to be still in existence.
