It’s been a busy year so far for the winners of the opening event in the 2015 Optima Batteries’ Ultimate Street Car Series.

Rob Krider and Keith Kramer, successful endurance racing drivers since 2008, drove Krider’s 2006 Corvette Z06 to the top spot in the Feb. 28/March 1 competition at Thunderhill Raceway in Willows, Calif.

We told you a few weeks ago about a one-of-a-kind 1965 Corvette Sting Ray that has been on the track since it was born – and in the same family for more than 30 years. Brian Hobaugh will again be aiming for the top prize with his family’s Corvette in the OPTIMA Batteries Ultimate Street Car Invitational 2013 on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (PST) in Pahrump, Nev.

When Brian Hobaugh’s dad bought a 1965 Corvette to compete in the world of autocross back in 1983, he probably didn’t realize he was creating a family legacy that shows no signs of ending anytime soon.

But that’s exactly what he has created over the past 30 years with his magnificent 1965 Sting Ray that has never known anything but life on the autocross since it was created in St. Louis, Mo.

Last week at the C7 Corvette Stingray Media Drive event in Monterey, Chevy had an autocross course set up on a concrete tarmac just behind the airplane hanger where the entire event was staged. Three Corvettes, all 7-speed Z51 cars, were on the track. I chose the Torch Red Stingray (because everyone knows that red Corvettes are the fastest).
