The Robin Hood Rally is a reality show will soon air on the Versus network that pits amateur drivers racing flat out on closed public roads. The only problem with the premise: They’re amateurs! So it’s no surprise that in only the 2nd event out of 10 planned finds one of the drivers airlifted to the hospital with injuries sustained in a crash involving a Corvette Z06, BMW m3 and a Mini Cooper.
Some people have really cool jobs. Just ask Edmunds Inside Line Road Test Editor Chris Walton who found an excuse to play with three special Corvettes at Willow Springs Raceway. Billed as the Corvettemegeddon Comparison, Chris drove a prototype of the 2011 Corvette Z06 Carbon edition, a 2010 Grand Sport Coupe and a 2002 Z06 and put the three sports cars through a series of high performance tests. Almost two years ago the world was introduced to the Rossi SixtySix, a C6 Corvette refitted with custom panels that borrow some of the best design features of the 1963-67 Sting Rays while updating the mid-year look for the 21 century. No longer just a dream, the Rossi SixtySix project is tooled up and well underway with the first car, a Pearl White Split Window Coupe making its public debut this Sunday at Detroit’s EyesOn Design benefit.
Production of the 2010 Corvette model has wrapped up and GM has released the final production statistics for the 2010 Corvette model year. The final count of Corvettes produced for MY 2010 is 12,194. That’s a decrease of 28.1% from 2009′s 16,956 production and a whopping 65.5% off the 35,310 Corvettes produced in 2008.
Car and Driver got their hands on a Lotus Evora, a mid-engine 2+2 sports car that lists for $85,270 as tested. Naturally, they wanted to put this car up against others in its class, so they roped in a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport and Porsche Cayman S and took all three sports cars to Buttonwillow Raceway in California. As an automotive buff and especially as a Corvette enthusiast, I love to look at the drawings made by members of the GM design studio as they sketched out new designs and ideas for America’s sports car. Before you could buy a Corvette, GM’s studio artists first had to sketch it. And now thanks to Route 427′s “Art in Motion”, you can own some of the most iconic automotive artwork ever produced during the heyday of automotive design.
This 2010 Corvette ZR1 has obviously seen better days. I thought at first it was flood damage based on the mud in the interior, but one of the members on Corvette Forum says it was caught in a Oklahoma tornado. Could this be the first 300 mph Corvette ZR1?
Detroit Pitcher Armando Galarraga’s quest for a perfect game on Wednesday against the Cleveland Indians came to an end after a botched call by the first base umpire ruled the 27th and final batter safe. Galarraga kept his cool and retired the next batter to record a one-hit, 3-0 shutout in the game. As a reward for Galarraga’s performance on and off the field, Chevrolet stepped up to the plate and delivered a new 2010 Corvette Grand Sport convertible to the hometown pitching hero.
