[PICS] FVS Renders the C8 Mid-Engine Corvette And Dishes Thoughts on the Side Scoops

One of the areas of the C8 Mid-Engine Corvette that has confounded enthusiasts is trying to determine the exact design of the side air-intake scoops that will feed air to the engine. From the first “nearly-naked” sightings in Nurburgring to those just spied over the last couple of weeks in Detroit, it’s clear that Corvette’s designers are still hiding the exact shape of those scoops.

[VIDEO] Katech Performance Boosts the New LT5 to 1,013 Horsepower

The good news is that the folks at Katech Performance have modified an LT5 engine – the one that makes the 2019 Corvette ZR1 the beast it is – and cracked 1,000 horsepower!

The bad news is that Katech says it can’t yet calibrate the C7 ZR1 engines for these mods. No word on when or if they will be able to.

When we say this black C3 Corvette Stingray left its mark at this European drag race event, we’re saying it literally left its mark on the road as the Hoosier racing slicks struggled to hook up the 900 horsepower from the 9.3L V8.

In this video, the Corvette goes up against a variety of streetcars including a Lamborghini and is only really tested once. A fun video to watch for fans of the C3!

[VIDEO] Would You Buy a Corvette with 300,000 Miles On It?

When browsing your local craigslist or other Corvettes for Sale websites and you see a high mileage Corvette for a low price, do you stop to consider it or do you immediately swipe right and keep on searching?

Later model Corvettes can be fairly reliable and their owners usually have done a pretty good job at maintaining them over the years, but as the miles add up, those former daily drivers can be harder to sell. But should they be?

Mid-America Motorworks shares their knowledge library article on C3 1968-1977 Corvette Door Panels

1968-1977 Corvette Door Panels

Corvettes left the St Louis Corvette Assembly Plant with either a vinyl or leather interior. Other than 1968, all Vinyl Standard Interior Corvettes had one style of door panels and Leather Interior Corvette had an upgraded version of the same door panel. This changed several times during these years of Corvette production.

Mid America Motorworks and C3 Corvette Door Panels

What years of C3 Corvettes have different styles of Door Panels and why?

  • 1968 is a one year only door panel with only one version.
  • 1969 was also a one year only door panel and had 2 versions, one for Standard Vinyl Interior and one for Corvettes ordered with optional Leather Interiors.
  • 1970-1976 Standard Vinyl Interior Door Panels are all the same.
  • 1970-1975 Custom (Deluxe) Interior Door Panels and came with Corvette with Leather Seat Covers.
  • 1976 Custom (Deluxe) Interior Trim Door Panels and came with Corvette with Leather Seat Covers.
  • 1977 Custom (Deluxe) Interior Trim Door Panels were all the same.

What is the difference of the Standard Interior and Custom (Deluxe) Interior Trim?

  • 1968 Corvettes came equipped with standard Vinyl Seat Covers or optional Leather Seat covers and all door panels were the same.
  • 1969 Standard Vinyl Interior Corvettes had Door Panels with the upper area of the door panel consisting of a Comfortweave pattern dielectrically embossed/molded into the door panels.
  • 1969 Corvettes with the Leather Interior Option had Door Panels with a separate special Insert of Comfortweave Material attached to the door panels.
  • 1970-1976 Standard Interior trim was vinyl seat covers and door panels without the upper trim bezel or lower door panel covered with carpet and chrome trim.
  • 1970-1976 Custom (Deluxe) Interior Trim option consisted of Leather Seat Covers, Cut Pile (Plush) Carpeting and special door panels with a wood trim insert on the upper 1/3 of the panel and carpeting on the bottom of the door panel. The shifter console also had matching wood trim. Strangely there was no RPO option number for Custom (Deluxe) Interior Tim.
  • 1977 Corvettes were equipped with the “Custom (Deluxe) Interior Trim” package as standard equipment.

What is the difference between 1970-1977 Corvettes with Custom (Deluxe) Interior Trim Door Panels?

  • 1970-1975 Custom (Deluxe) Interior Trim Door Panels consisted of a normal door panel plus an upper chrome bezel insert with walnut trim and a lower chrome trim accenting the Plush Cut Pile carpet at the bottom of the door panel.
  • 1976 Custom (Deluxe) Interior Door Panels consisted of a normal door panel plus an upper chrome bezel insert with teak trim and a lower chrome trim accenting the Plush Cut Pile carpet at the bottom of the door panel.
  • 1977 Custom (Deluxe) Interior Door Panels All 1977 Corvettes had the upgraded Custom (Deluxe) Interior option as standard equipment.

Is it possible to convert a Standard 1970-1977 Door Panels into Custom (Deluxe) Interior Trim Door Panels?

In a simple response – YES. Each separate component piece is available as a Corvette Reproduction Part and every door panel has the same backing and allows for the addition of trim parts. Your old or used hardware can also be transferred to a NEW door panel.

How many Corvettes were equipped with the Optional Custom (Deluxe) Interior Trim option?

1970 3,191
1971 2,602
1972 8,709
1973 13,434
1974 19,959
1975 Unknown
1976 36,762
1977 All

I see 1968-1977 Standard Door Panels listed as both Basic and Standard. Why?

Over the years, we have sold door panel with NO TRIM attached and referred to them as “Basic”. These allowed customers to transfer their old door panel trim to new panels. We also sold the Standard Door Panel with the U-trim and lock plate attached at the factory and referred to them as Standard. This was confusing to the customer and we now refer to Door Panels as:

Standard for vinyl interior cars
Deluxe for leathers interior cars
Most Standard Door Panels can be ordered with trim and without trim.

Teens Do $800K in Damages After Breaking Into Houston Dealership and Smashing Multiple Vehicles

Teenagers have been known to do some pretty stupid stuff, but this may have set the bar a little higher.

Police say four teens broke into a Houston CarMax dealership, just off I-45, on Sunday night and proceeded to cause at least $800,000 in damage to some pretty nice cars, including two Red Corvettes: a C7 Z06 and a C7 Grand Sport.

[VIDEO] New C8 Corvette 360-Degree Render from bdsvavars

The render gurus over at th MidEngineCorvetteForum.com are sure keeping us busy this week. Just the other night we shared a new Chazcron 360-degree render video and now we have a new one from bdsvavars.

FYI, bsdvavars real name is Bjorn Daniel Svavarsson and we understand that he resides in Iceland with occasional visits to Greenland now and again. Just goes to show the love for the Chevrolet Corvette is a global phenomenon.

bsdvavars was the first to do a 360-degree video of the C8 Corvette. Like Chazcron and FVS, he used the spy photos for reference and then his own opinions to flesh out what you see here. They’ve come along way since that first render video and we expect we’ll be seeing more shortly!
