Somebody has already done a good bit of the heavy lifting on this 1969 Corvette Stingray, and now another enthusiast has an opportunity to finish the job.
The partially restored C3 is being offered on eBay for $21,000 by Classic Car Addiction, a licensed classic car dealership in Washington state.
And judging by the photos accompanying the listing, this could be an attractive way to get behind the wheel of a third-generation Corvette without spending a fortune.
The recently resprayed white exterior looks sharp, especially when paired with the tan interior and classic redline tires. Of course, photographs don’t always tell the whole story, but this Stingray certainly makes a favorable first impression.
Better yet, this isn’t one of those projects that arrives in boxes with a promise that most of the missing pieces are probably somewhere in the garage.
According to the seller, the Corvette is already running and driving, with several important mechanical repairs completed.
Under the hood is a 350 small-block Chevy V8, although the listing makes it clear that the engine isn’t numbers-matching. It’s connected to a four-speed manual transmission.
The seller describes the engine as strong-running and says the steering and suspension feel excellent.
The brakes have also been replaced recently, along with both rear trailing arms — significant improvements on a car that’s now more than half a century old.
Just as importantly, the undercarriage and chassis are said to be solid, with additional photographs provided for prospective buyers to inspect.
Naturally, a $21,000 classic Corvette isn’t likely to be perfect, and this one has a few issues that a future owner will need to address.
The car was originally equipped with air conditioning, and the system remains connected, but it doesn’t blow cold air.
The seller also notes that the clutch fan isn’t engaging, something that deserves attention before the Corvette is subjected to extended driving in hot weather.
On the positive side, the heater, windshield wipers, exterior lights, gauges and even the clock are reportedly working.
That’s a welcome bonus for anyone familiar with the electrical quirks that can accompany vintage Corvettes.
The car also retains its removable T-tops and removable rear window, two features that make these early C3 coupes so much fun when the weather cooperates.
The seller has posted walkaround and test-drive videos, along with additional undercarriage photographs, to give potential buyers a better idea of the Corvette’s condition.
The actual mileage is unknown, and the car is being sold as-is.
It’s nice to find a classic Corvette that doesn’t require its next owner to spend years bringing it back to life.
This 1969 Stingray appears to offer much of the visual appeal of a restored C3, along with enough completed mechanical work to make it an interesting candidate for someone who wants to enjoy the car while addressing its remaining shortcomings.
Of course, a personal inspection would be wise, particularly to evaluate the quality of the paintwork, verify the chassis condition and determine what repairs the cooling and air-conditioning systems might require.
But if the Corvette looks as good in person as it does in the listing, that $21,000 asking price certainly deserves a closer look.
After all, there’s nothing wrong with letting somebody else do the hard part of restoring a classic Corvette.
Especially when you get to enjoy the results.
