Another team is jumping on the Corvette bandwagon for 2027, and this one is leaving a familiar Italian rival behind.
British-based Inception Racing is trading its Ferrari for a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R Evo as it prepares for its fifth consecutive full season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
The move, announced Tuesday, makes Inception the second full-time Corvette customer team confirmed for the GTD class next season, joining 13 Autosport.
According to Sportscar365, the switch may have been influenced by DXDT Racing’s expected departure from the Corvette program, along with DragonSpeed’s withdrawal from top-level IMSA competition.
Whatever the circumstances, Corvette Racing officials are delighted to welcome another experienced team into the fold.
“We are extremely excited to be joining the Corvette family for our IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship campaign,” said Inception sporting director Bas Leinders.
“GM and Pratt Miller have an incredible racing pedigree and a long history of success in sports car racing.”
Leinders also recognized something Corvette enthusiasts already know: Few sports cars inspire the kind of loyalty found among Corvette racing fans.
“At every IMSA event, we see the passion and loyalty of the Corvette fans, and it is fantastic to now become part of that community and such a rich racing heritage,” he said.

Although the car is changing, Inception plans to retain its familiar driver lineup of Brendan Iribe, Frederik Schandorff and Ollie Millroy.
Millroy is targeting a return for January’s season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona after suffering injuries in a frightening China GT Championship crash. Fellow racer Loek Hartog pulled him from the damaged car.
Inception has competed with a Ferrari 296 GT3 since switching from the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo late in 2024.
The Optimum Motorsport-run operation made its WeatherTech Championship debut in 2021 and has steadily developed into a competitive GTD team.
Iribe, Schandorff and Millroy scored Inception’s first series victory at Indianapolis in 2025 during the six-hour Battle on the Bricks. The trio followed with a season-best third-place finish at Virginia International Raceway in 2026.
Now they’ll attempt to build on that success behind the wheel of a Corvette.
Corvette Racing program manager Andrea Hidalgo welcomed the addition.
“Inception is one of the leading GTD teams in the series, and we’re grateful for its confidence in what our program represents,” Hidalgo said.
“This addition will strengthen both teams and the broader Corvette Racing program in 2027.”
For Corvette fans, the news means another entry to cheer for when the green flag drops at Daytona.
And for Inception Racing, it means trading the prancing horse for crossed flags.
We’ll see how that decision pays off in 2027.
