Caring for the Blade Silver Matte Exteriors on the ZR1X Quail Editions is not for the Faint of Heart

We have some more details on the new 2026 Corvette ZR1X Quail Silver Limited Editions which are now being scheduled for production in Bowling Green. Yesterday we noted that Chevrolet is essentially forcing buyers to either have the cars delivered to the National Corvette Museum for an R8C Delivery, or they must pay extra for an enclosed shipping service from the factory to their dealership. Now, we have an official PDF from Chevrolet that details the care required for the new Blade Silver Matte Exteriors that are exclusive to these special 3LZ convertibles.

I could have sworn that I heard previously that buyers of the Quail Silver ZR1Xs would be presented with an Acknowledgement Form at time of purchase about the low-gloss paint, but our dealer friends couldn’t locate anything like that within GM’s system. But what we did find was an 8-page PDF that should provide those new owners with plenty of do’s and don’ts when caring for the silver matte exteriors. We’ve got those slides below, and you can also download the complete Customer Care PDF here.

As you can see from these slides, caring for the Blade Silver Matte exteriors does require a level of commitment above and beyond what most owners are used too, and then it might be worth bringing in professionals who have experience in caring for painted matte exteriors.

Big thanks to Rick ‘Corvette’ Conti for sharing this Customer Care document with us. You can see the video he did about it below:

And finally, we got a confirmation about the Blade Silver matte exterior name. We got all excited back when the first Quail Silver orders went in as GM’s internal screens show it as the Duntov Silver Matte Metallic, but that appears to be an internal name only with Blade Silver Matte being the name it will be referred to.

  1. First of all, I love a shiny car, not one that looks like it is waiting for its clear coat. Every time I take out my C8 it comes home with bird crap, one time it was spread from front to back. I can’t imagine having that happen to a matte paint job, and how long it would take to clean it. But the big problem is what happens if you’re not home and you have to just watch the bird crap dry in the sun all day. Your paint would be ruined. I keep my cars covered with a slippery coating of wax. When I wash them, I dry them with an 80-volt leaf blower, so I never touch the paint. This also blows water out of the body opening, so no water-drip stains occur.

  2. This is just totally ridiculous. It’s mind boggling that Chevrolet would even offer a paint finish that would be a major hassle for anyone to maintain and keep nice looking. These cars won’t stay new looking for long unless you just keep one stored inside all the time with a cover on it.

  3. Ladies and Gentlemen, this special edition Corvette, the ZR1X Quail Edition will never see a cloud, nor the sunshine above, will never be driven to a rally or car.show, would never have bird crap or even dust on this special matte silver paint – as all of these.Corvettes will be locked up in a garage, used.as an investment and sold in 5 to 10 years from now at.Barrett-Jackson or Mecum with 10 miles on the odometer.
Who cares what the Chevrolet paint maintenance specs are? Surely not the buyers of the ZR1X Quail Edition Corvette.
    Thanks for listening.

  4. I prefer my car to be as shiny as possible but if you want to have a matte finish just get the blade silver metallic and apply a matte PPF. A lot less hassle and cheaper in the long run.
