With Chevrolet now allowing dealers to place orders for the 2026 Corvette ZR1X Quail Silver Limited Editions, we’ve noted a recent update to the Corvette Order Guide which now requires additional delivery costs for those buyers.
We believe the reason for this is due to the exclusive Duntov Silver Matte Exteriors (aka Blade Silver Matte) which requires greater care than those painted with Corvette’s traditional metallic/clear coat exteriors. We’re assuming that Chevrolet doesn’t want to risk any damage to those low-gloss cars from its regular shipping process which includes wrapping the cars in the white transport covers and shipping them on exposed carriers.
The recent distribution update to the Corvette Order Guide now calls for the buyers of the ZR1X Quail Silver Limited Editions to choose between either an R8C Corvette Museum Delivery or the new XES enclosed shipping carrier.
Currently, the option code for XES is populating on Quail Silver orders, but no additional price is listed. We reached out to our rep at Chevrolet who confirmed that there is an additional charge for the enclosed shipping, but that new price in not yet available. The standard fee for shipping Corvettes to dealers is called the Delivery Freight Charge (DFC) and it’s now priced at $2,495.
For buyers who opt for the R8C Museum Delivery Experience, that is still priced at $1,495 and it does require the mandatory DFC charge as well.
In addition to the XES shipping fee, those who purchase the Quail Silver ZR1X’s will also have to sign an acknowledgement at purchase regarding the matte paint and its care. We’ll have more on that in a later post.
As for the XES enclosed shipping option which offers much more protection for your new Corvette as its shipped from Bowling Green to your dealership where it still has to undergo the PDI service, it that something you would like to see offered on any Corvette purchase? Wait until they get the first little scratch and find out matte paint jobs can’t be spot repaired and blended out. You have to repaint the entire panel! I love a high gloss paint job. You couldn’t give me one of those matte finishes or that battleship gray / shiny primer look that some people seem to go for.
The paint wouldn’t work for me…. I can’t drive 55….
So Chevrolet is charging $2495 (DFC) to deliver the car across the street to the museum on top of the R8C charge of $1495? That’s just BULLSHIT
What a bunch of shit and BTW low gloss paint is ugly! Why would anybody want it on a Corvette?
