Detroit’s famous Autorama celebrated its 73rd anniversary this year. What else is 73 years old? Corvette! So, it just makes sense that Corvettes showed up strong this year at America’s Greatest Hot Rod Show.
The show takes place in late February or early March each year at Detroit’s sprawling Huntington Place. It’s the unofficial kick off to the newest car show season and basically a holiday weekend in the Motor City.
While the Ridler Award Contenders claim the spotlight each year, it’s the nearly 800 other cars, trucks, and more in the building that make Detroit Autorama a bucket list event. Whether you’re into motorcycles, rat rods, old school customs, lifted trucks, there’s something at Autorama for you. If it’s got wheels, or even tracks or wings in some cases, you’re sure to see it there. Heck, there’s even a model car contest there too. Throw in a host of vendors offering items for kids of all ages, and you’ve got the recipe for a killer car show.
We all know Corvette owners love to show off their rides and Autorama always draws the best around. While walking the miles of aisles, we saw Corvettes of every generation. Our favorite, by far, was the ‘Cool Whip’ custom 1962 that made it to the Great 8. We also loved the silver/blue over tan custom 1959 convertible. Other early era faves for us included the bonkers, orange 1963 hot rod, and a maroon 1962 referred to as a project. We loved it just the way it sat, project or not. On the later model side, you can’t go wrong with a Torch Red C6 ZR1 or C7 Grand Sport convertible. The wildly modded C8 convertibles took things to the next level.
After every Autorama we find ourselves already counting down to the next one just to see what shows up. If you’ve never been, be sure to get Detroit’s Autorama on your car show bucket list. In the meantime, enjoy our gallery of the 2026 event below where we’ve also included some of our favorite metal cars this time as well.

I’m sorry, but for the last 2 pics I don’t see anything that I would describe as “wildly modded”. All the other pics appear to be of relatively stock-looking cars but for their wheels/tires. What happened to truly wild customs — ones that leave viewers puzzled as to what make and model the designer even started with — does virtually no one do them anymore? Has unfettered imagination all but left the building?
Nice ones!!!
