[PICS] Corvettes Galore at the 2024 Detroit Autorama

For us car guys here in the southeastern Michigan area, early March brings hopes of warm weather, dry roads, and a new cruising season. It also brings along the annual Detroit Autorama which is essentially an extra holiday weekend around here. It means that spring is on the horizon, and we can finally get our cars back out of the garage and on to the road where they belong.

“America’s Greatest Hot Rod Show” turned 71 this year as roughly 700 cars and thousands of gearheads filled the 700,000 square foot Huntington Center in Downtown Detroit, MI. In addition to all the cars, attendees could peruse the latest goodies from a myriad of vendors or pick up something cool in the Toy-O-Rama section. We’re always big fans of the model car contest and watching the talented pin stripers doing their thing. There’s also an extensive collection of motorcycles, custom bikes, trucks, and rat rods. While wandering the show floor it’s common to bump into famous car guys like Chip Foose, Dave Kindig, and Barry Maguire. The display of Batman vehicles had a huge crowd all weekend and the recently rediscovered “Uncertain T” was shown in its as-found condition. What a cool old hot rod!

The top award at Detroit Autorama is the Ridler Award which went to that amazing ‘TwelveAir’ Corvette built by Kindig-it Design. While that C1 stole the show, we did spy Corvettes from all 8 generations in attendance. A crazy 1959 custom joined “TwelveAir” in the Great 8 as a wild 1969 looked on from across the room. Elsewhere we loved seeing the Corvettes in race trim from a silver 1962 to a red 1966 coupe to the green 2016 Z06. The stock restored crowd loved the meticulously restored 1963 coupe. Our friends at NCM Insurance hosted Tom Peters’ wild ZL1-powered silver 1969 in their display. We even stumbled upon a 2003 Avelate Corvette. When was the last time you saw one of those?

Overall, the show was yet another great look at the individual tastes and creativity of Corvette owners. There’s just no limit to where customization can take you. If you’ve never been to Detroit Autorama, we strongly advise you to add it to your car show bucket list. Now, onward to our shiny Corvette gallery from the 2024 event.
