C8 Corvette Driver Busted Trying to Cross into Mexico with 44 Handguns Stashed Inside

A 2021 Chevrolet Corvette — built for speed, not stealth — became the center of a major weapons bust after border officers discovered dozens of handguns hidden inside the sports car as it attempted to cross into Mexico.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the C8 Corvette rolled up to the Juarez Lincoln Bridge in Laredo on Feb. 3, ready to head across the border but was pulled aside by outbound officers for inspection. What started as a routine stop quickly turned into something else.

The Corvette was run through an X-ray system and checked by a detection dog, revealing a stash that had nothing to do with horsepower: 44 handguns and 79 magazines concealed throughout the vehicle.

“Significant outbound weapons seizures, like the one realized by our officers at Juarez-Lincoln Bridge, reflect the relentless dedication of our officers to upholding CBP’s border security mission and keeping our border communities safe,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry.

The weapons, magazines, and the Corvette were all seized by CBP officers, and the driver was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations, which has opened a criminal investigation.
