After years of trying, “Clive,” the well traveled 240,000 mile Corvette C6 that stars in children’s books, finally claimed victory in the 40-minute race at the historic VSCC Pomeroy Trophy on February 14, 2026. The achievement comes after finishing second and third in previous attempts—making this year’s run at Silverstone all the sweeter.

The Pomeroy Trophy, affectionately known as “The Pom,” is one of Britain’s most unique motorsport events. Hosted by the Vintage Sports Car Club since 1952, it pits everything from prewar machines to modern performance cars against one another in a series of acceleration, braking, and handling tests before culminating in 40 minutes on the legendary Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit. It’s a celebration of 70 years of motoring history, and a rare place where a century’s worth of engineering competes on equal footing.

For Clive, the goal this year was simple: win the race portion outright.

A 17 lap target—used to determine starting order—was mathematically impossible for the Corvette to achieve, but ironically that worked in its favor. The calculation placed Clive on “pole,” giving the driver a clear track at the start and a chance to build a gap before faster rivals worked their way through traffic.

“It does mean there are no car to car battles on track to watch,” the driver joked. “Just lapping cars that were focusing on their own race.” That didn’t make the challenge any less intense. Determined to keep things tidy, the driver avoided the usual sideways antics—helped, humorously, by “Yokohama Ted,” a stuffed bear riding shotgun to keep things calm.

Clive was armed with fresh Yokohama A052 tires that delivered impressive grip in near freezing temperatures. EBC two piece brake discs paired with SR11 racing pads provided consistent stopping power, while double adjustable KW dampers and the Corvette’s monoleaf springs helped put power down smoothly. Liqui Moly engine, gearbox, and differential fluids once again kept the high mileage LS2 running flawlessly.

Despite the Corvette’s strong performance, the event’s handicap system—designed to level the playing field between pre war cars and modern machinery—makes an overall victory impossible for a car like Clive. But that’s never been the point.

“I know that when entering,” the driver said. “But it’s still such fun, with friendly drivers, Marshals, and spectators.”

Marc Peters once again volunteered his time and expertise to film and edit the event video that’s on YouTube now, while Joy Richings kindly provided start grid footage.

The VSCC Pomeroy Trophy remains one of motorsport’s most charming spectacles—a place where a 240,000 mile Corvette can share the track with machines built before World War II, all in pursuit of the title of “best touring motor car.”

And this year, at long last, Clive got to the checkered flag first.

  1. Thank you for your continued coverage of Clive. This one looked easy, as I’d pulled out a good lead on the first lap and was never caught by my faster rivals. The Corvette continues to impress both myself and many people who are new to the brand in the UK.

  2. I don’t follow Clive closely, but I wonder if it would help to disengage the e-brake. Was it disabled earlier?
