Criswell Chevrolet’s Mike Furman delivers new Corvettes to his customers who come from all across the country to work with the nation’s top individual Corvette seller.
No new Corvette deliveries this week so Mike keeps us entertained with some random posts before getting into the vintage and classic photos, so make sure you let us know your favorites. But first, the question of the day: The owner of the Z06 shown above matched the color of his Corvette to his pet peacocks. What’s the weirdest thing that inspired you to color match your Corvette to? Drop that in the comments as well!
You can see all of Mike’s posts and pictures through the week on his CorvetteFurman Facebook Page.
~I had a few minutes of free time today since the Northeast received some inclement weather. I have kept work orders and invoices for every car/truck deal that I’ve delivered since the start of my career with Malcolm Konner Auto(July 26th, 1978) What you see in the picture/video is the last 17 years (x12 mos each year)since I began with Criswell Auto. Each folder has that months deals/log and the circled number is my Corvette deliveries for that month. Much of my older paperwork got destroyed during Hurricane Sandy October 2012 but I thought I’d share a view of my monthly folders piled up. By mistake I put half of 2025 folders on top of 2011. (See black scribble lines)

~This past Saturday 1/24/26~ Mike “Brink of Speed” was filming in Scottsdale, Arizona and randomly video’s my customer Zeke Jones. Zeke was a Silver medalist for Wrestling at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona and also was a 6 time World Champ. Zeke joined me a few years ago for the Ron Fellows Corvette owners school in Pahrump, Nevada. Zeke and I have been friends and last March he gifted me 4 tickets to the College Wrestling Division 1 NCAA tournament. This tourney was held in Philadelphia so I invited Kevin Mackay (Corvette master restorer) and his brother and I brought a good golfing friend of mine. We sat with Zeke in the ASU Sun devils section (even though I wrestled for Univ Of Maryland) because Zeke is the head coach for Arizona State Wrestling.
Mike Brink happens to be on my ZR1 list as is Zeke, and they came together just by coincidence.
Enjoy the 1 minute video and pictures in the comments.
~ “The most Expensive Corvette was never meant to Be Sold Until It Shattered a $7.7 Million Auction Record
General Motors has built nearly two million Corvettes, but until now, no example had ever crossed the $4 million mark at public auction. That changed in 2025 when the legendary 1957 Corvette SS race car sold for $7,705,000 at RM Sotheby’s Miami, making it the most expensive Corvette ever auctioned.
Previously, the record belonged to a rare one-of-20 1967 L88 Corvette, which sold for $3.85 million in 2014. The Corvette SS didn’t just break that record; it obliterated it.
By the mid-1950s, the Corvette was evolving rapidly. Thanks largely to engineer Zora Arkus-Duntov, the car transformed from a stylish six-cylinder cruiser into a serious performance machine powered by a small-block V-8. Factory-backed Corvettes began to prove themselves at Daytona and Sebring, but they were still heavily modified production cars competing against purpose-built European racers.
For 1957, Chevrolet decided to change that.
Under Duntov’s direction, a small, secretive engineering team developed a true sports racing car: the Corvette SS (Super Sport), internally known as Project XP-64. Built in less than six months, the SS featured a tubular chrome-moly frame, independent front suspension, a de Dion rear setup, and finned drum brakes. Power came from a lightweight, fuel-injected 283-cubic-inch V-8 paired with an aluminum close-ratio four-speed transmission.
The body, styled by GM’s design department, was constructed from magnesium, making it lighter than fiberglass but also extremely hot inside. Visually, the Corvette SS blended European racing proportions with unmistakably American Jet Age styling cues.
Two cars were built: a development mule and a fully finished race car. The SS made its competition debut at the 1957 12 Hours of Sebring, driven by John Fitch and Piero Taruffi. During practice, legends Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss tested the development car, with Fangio even setting a new lap record, clear evidence of the SS’s potential.
In the race, the Corvette showed impressive straight-line speed but suffered from mechanical issues. Brake troubles, electrical faults, and rear suspension problems eventually forced the car to retire after just 23 laps.
Despite the promising debut, the program came to an abrupt end. In June 1957, the AMA racing ban effectively shut down factory-backed racing efforts by American manufacturers. The Corvette SS never returned to competition, becoming one of racing history’s great “what ifs.”
GM retained the car, displayed it publicly, and continued to test it. Duntov later achieved speeds of 155 mph at Daytona and 183 mph at GM’s Mesa Proving Ground. In 1967, the Corvette SS entered the collection of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, where it remained for decades.
The museum recently began selling several significant cars to fund long-term sustainability, including record-setting sales of a Mercedes-Benz W196 and a Ferrari 250 LM. The Corvette SS was among these offerings, and its sale price reflects its singular importance.
The Corvette SS raced only once, but its impact on Corvette lore and American motorsport history is enormous. That it now holds the title of the most expensive Corvette ever sold comes as little surprise, and it’s a record that may stand for a very long time.”

~I just received an email from Robert F. of Morrill, Nebraska.
Robert has twice driven from Nebraska to Maryland in order to take delivery of a new Corvette from me, both were special ordered by Robert. Now how many pick a Corvette color to match the family Peacocks? Riptide Blue metallic was his choice and the Peacocks are not for sale or trade! Robert’s 2026 Z06 Coupe has the ultra rare option, electrochromic top!

Great pics as always! I particularly like:
• Toad with Steve’s white ’58 Impala from “American Grafitti”
• The very next pic with 2 Grand Sports at the front of the pack
• The yellow 70-72 roadster
• The Daytona Blue SWC fuelie (possibly a Z06?)
• The black or blue ’63 roadster with the “skyview” removable hardtop (the pic
that follows is awfully nice too!)
• The threesome in the red #8 ’57 fuelie
Never had the opportunity to colour match a Corvette, as my heart was set on a C2 and the opportunity to order one new and pick the colour combination ended long before I was even old enough to drive. I ended up with a ’66 and if I could have picked from any of the colour combinations available that year it likely would have been Tuxedo Black over either Red or Bright Blue.
Cute chickie-poo in the short shorts is maybe a cute Granny now. 😁
1 glorious hour spent studying all the great pics. Amazed as usual of all the great info and pics you have Mike.
My favorite is the red C3 pulling the trailer with the red C3 on it.
I like the picture of the Sexy lady with short shorts showing off her attributes along side a Corvette showing off its attributes.
I always look forward to Mike’s Throwback Photos every week, brings back great memories!!
Always enjoy seeing the Corvettes pulling trailers. In 1980 I had a 80 Corvette I pulled a motorcycle trailer with, hauling a Honda CR250 to Midwest Moto Cross tracks. The CR was 4 times as fast as the beautiful but under powered 80 Corvette.
