Corvettes for Sale: 383-Powered 1968 Corvette Coupe Offered at No Reserve on Bring a Trailer

The person who oversaw the transformation of this 1968 Corvette T-top coupe wanted a showroom presence but didn’t build for trophies. He spent what he wanted, cut elsewhere when he wanted, and mostly followed his own taste. Cash paid for most of it, receipts are few, and the result carries his stubborn, unapologetic intent: make it mean, make it loud, make it beautiful to him.

That approach left the Corvette somewhere between careful restoration and creative rebellion—no concours purity, but plenty of personality. It’s a completed project in the sense that the owner’s vision was realized, and imperfect in all the honest ways a lived-in classic should be.

But, now after all that work, this first-year C3 is up for sale at no reserve on Bring a Trailer, where the high bid has climbed to $8,700 with six days left in the auction.

This Corvette definitely isn’t a museum piece; she’s a presence on the street. People notice and react—smiles, thumbs-up, conversations at lights. She has the kind of looks that start small arguments in the best way: is she modified enough, too much, or just right? To most, she’s simply exciting. To one person, she will be exact.

Recent routine care—basic fluids, alternator, alignment—shows someone trying to keep the promise intact: make her ready for the next set of miles, not hide how the miles will be earned.

“Yes, she is approaching 60 years young and is not perfect by any means, but she presents well for her age,” the seller replied to one post. “This was not a nut-and-bolt restoration, just a simple refresh and refurbishment. Although it is not Pebble Beach or concours-level, a lot of efforts, time, money, and even literal blood and sweat went into getting her to this stage.”

He calls it “a nice driver’s example” that a new owner can simply enjoy at weekend car shows and on sunny days “without worrying about adding mileage.”

“She is definitely not a garage queen,” he admits, “having seen around 1,200 miles of use over the past few months or so.”

The car was previously owned by a part owner of a major local franchise dealership in Washington state, “who spared no expense on the build,” carefully maintaining it with the goal of keeping the car as a showroom curiosity at the store for the rest of its life. The majority of the work was paid for in cash, so there are no receipts, the seller says.

The previous owner, he says, “dropped a lot of coin into this vehicle and build to get it to where he’s happy with it. He didn’t keep track or have a set budget in mind when building his dream ‘Vette. He dropped cash on whatever he wanted that made him happy. His goal and vision is exactly what you see. It’s clearly not a SEMA build, but something aggressively beautiful and extremely fun to cruise and roam the streets.”

That work was extensive, including a freshly custom-built SBC 383 stroker V8 with an Edelbrock RPM intake and Brodix IK200 heads, Turbo TH400 automatic transmission, 4.11 rear end, J50 power brakes, N11 side exhaust with the L88 widebody Rallye kit, L88 hood, chin spoiler, custom billet grille, new carpet and insulation, LED lighting, gauges, console, and stereo, 18×11 American Racing wheels with Falken 295/40/18 tires, QA1 coilovers, polyurethane bushings, complete custom repaint, and more.

“It’s obvious a decent chunk of money was invested” into the car, done to the previous owner’s standards and taste. Now the seller just wants the next owner “at the end of the day” to appreciate this car for what it is, noting that even if the nearly 500 photos and several videos in the gallery don’t offer enough of an assessment for any interested, he’s open to visits for in-person inspection by appointment.

Out of “countless” Corvettes the seller has listed on BaT, he says this car “gets the most smiles, thumbs up, and conversations on the road.”

  2. Well, I have a deal for you on the 1968 Love the Motor ,BlackCherry,T-top, Corvette! I have a 2000 base model stock convertible Corvette, new tires, Green, A/C, 50-60k miles? Stays in garage! My Brother bought it and he keep it in the garage, than he passed. I said I would keep it,forever, but I am looking at your Vette ,Chris (502) 407-9575 Daytona Beach

  3. This is Chris Childress again, l forgot to tell you that I am the “Mail Man”, and I think that ’68 Vette hood w/ (’68 Vette)blower air scoop is perfect for the period of time it represents! The late 1960’s were very wildly expected to change everything? I was a 1960 model, so I was to young to get in touch with it, I understand the changes in the USA 🇺🇸 That Vette is American!!!
