When an Ohio man bought this 1962 Corvette when it was 10 years old, he ran out of gas while driving it home for the first time. Bob pushed it a block into his garage, and because his insurance was too high (“$1,200 a year” – equivalent to $10,000 today), he never drove it again.
As a result, it’s been sitting in his garage for the past 53 years, but now Bob’s grandson Drew has decided to get the family heirloom vehicle back on the road. Starting the restoration process was a thorough cleaning by the guys at WD Detailing.
His grandson says you couldn’t even tell there was a Corvette in the garage for many years underneath all the boxes and other junk piled on it.
Drew’s ultimate goal is to take his dad and granddad for a ride in the car, once WDD is done with its magic and it’s up and running again. As usual, WDD’s latest heartwarming and entertaining YouTube video shows how they tackle the interior and exterior of a Corvette that is covered in mold, dirt, and debris and hasn’t been detailed in years.
That means they have to pressure wash the entire exterior, followed by a wash, clay bar, and polishing of the paint to bring back its shine. And once all that grime was removed, we really love the unusual color, by the way. The guys also tackle the interior, including mold removal.
By the time they get through with all their efforts, the car may not look brand new, but it sure does look amazingly better. Even though there are rough spots and stains in the paint and the driver’s seat has a split at the front of the lower cushion, we’re still impressed with how good it turned out.
Of course, the highlight of the video was the unveiling to Grandpa Bob, who jokingly asks what they did with all the dirt!
Next up in the car’s journey back to the road will be mechanical improvements, and the goal is to have the car up and running by October.
Best wishes to Grandpa Bob and his family as they relive the good ol’ days, and hopefully they won’t run out of gas this time!

Three cheers for Drew – my hero! What is the name of that color – very unique color that I’m assuming is factory, not kustom? It does have American Racing (?) mags so maybe the paint is a repaint.
Looks like it has the old Cal Custom “Root Beer” color paint from back in late 60s early 70s when they were selling paint in their product line.
I have a 1978 25th Anniversary Corvette and COULD NOT BE HAPPIER 🏆🥇🎖️🏅!
I think the stain is mouse related with a cardboard box.
