A friend of my family is lucky enough to work for a man who owns a 2025 Corvette Z06 and actually lets him drive it!
Our long-time buddy hasn’t been to visit us yet in this new supercar, but during a recent conversation, he did warn us that the stock exhaust is very LOUD.
If that’s the case, then it would be a real treat to hear what YouTuber Jesse Iwuji’s Amplify Orange Z06 sounds like after being treated to an upgraded exhaust from Phoenyx Design.
In a recent video, Jesse shares his thoughts on the new exhaust and at the end even offers up a couple of minutes worth of drive-bys for us all. The problem with such videos is that you can’t really get a feel for how loud the car actually sounds in person.
To alleviate that problem somewhat, Jesse turns to a scientific test, using a decibel reader to record the new levels at idle (around 107 dB) and revving (around 129 dB). And that was with the cap on! A viewer comments that he left the cap on his db meter and that it should be much louder, with Jesse replying, “I know lmao, I messed up.” Unfortunately, he doesn’t share the levels in a stock Z06, so we aren’t sure exactly how they compare to the Phoenyx system.
A little research on the internet revealed that any sounds above 80 dB up to 110 are considered very loud and harmful to human hearing and potentially dangerous. For comparison’s sake, a rock concert is around 110, a thunderclap 120, and a balloon popping 125 – still below the revving levels of this Z06. On the other hand, it’s quieter than, say, a jet engine at takeoff 140, a shotgun 160, and a rocket launch 180.
So, in case the factory exhaust isn’t loud enough for you and you don’t mind wearing a hearing aid when you get old, Jesse’s upgrade might be an option for you, especially since he does say you can still carry on a normal conversation when cruising at the speed limit in eighth gear. He does point out that on the way to that gear, it was especially crazy loud in third and fourth gears, however.
Are you up for the challenge? Would you stand right behind Jesse’s Z06 while he revs it up?

This should not be celebrated and it’s indicative of what’s wrong in our community. If it’s a dedicated track car, fine. But exactly no one wants to hear this exhaust blasting through their residential neighborhood, past their sidewalk cafe, as they walk their dog down the street, passing children on bikes, etc. Not to mention that it’s completely illegal in nearly every jurisdiction.
I like to hear it anywhere! One can be respectful driving through neighborhoods and still have this sound when they want it. The problem is that you’re assuming that anyone that gets this exhaust would be an idiot, not so, that’s a small majority and in that case I agree.
I would 100% use this as justification to deny his VA disability claims.
Lots of noise and he still can’t beat his own stock Eray.
@Joe Vidd
Re-read the article–it’s over 107dB *AT IDLE*. That’s literally Spinal Tap in concert, turned up to 11, if not louder. And it only goes up from there as one puts it in gear and begins to drive. It’s simply not possible to drive this vehicle at respectful noise levels on any public road with that exhaust setup.
LOUD is “LOSER”!!! Just a “LOOK AT ME” idiot!
Is your self-worth wrapped up in how many people you can Selfishly Disturb with your OBNOXIOUS CAR ??? LOUD does NOT make you Fastest!! I started driving in the mid-1960’s…
And me and my GTO sounded strong, with Hooker Headers, Crane Cam, ported, polished, and matched ‘stock’ intake, and those famous 3-Deuce Carbs… but I did NOT punch holes in my mufflers with a screw-driver to make it LOUD to make my neighbors hate me!! I could come home late at night without waking my parents… and neighbors… but a well-tuned car does not need to be the LOUDEST vehicle in the neighborhood!!
I now have neighbors that are 2 streets away ( about 275 to 300 feet away) with two rows of houses between us,,, and they have “His & Hers” Hellcats… and every morning, I can hear each one of them crank uo and leave for work, inside my house, with a walk-in closet and Master bath between my bedroom and the back of my home… They are a super nice couple {BOTH are Army Veterans} but the NOISE of those BEAST-Cars will still wake me up as they leave for work. Of course, as a Vietnam Era Marine… but the Loud exhausts can be quite disturbing…
Doesn’t this futile exercise negate all the benefits of the $1,200 NPP exhaust option for our Corvettes?
Doesn’t quietly and slowly driving out of the neighborhood without the neighbors noticing or complaining, shows a modicum of respect for your local community?
Note: “Honestly, in my misspent youth (1980’s), I thought it was cool too.”
Thanks,
Ray
I think everyone has said it. For street use, loud is not warranted. I mean, like why? All this does is initiate more legislation for decibel control on vehicles. A nice mellow sound is just as cool.
Pretty childish. Next time get a modified Mustang 5.0 or Honda to fit in better with the rest of the high school kids. Excessive noise is not necessarily faster – and actually can reduce torque. I’d like to have a quieter 2LT Stingray Z51 startup at 5:30 or 6:00 am so my neighbors won’t be disturbed when I leave early in the morning for distant car shows and cars and coffee. I have some regrets not getting an E-ray when thinking about this issue…
