[VIDEO] The Mileage on this 1969 Corvette Convertible is Insane!

We always hear about those Corvettes that were purchased and then stored away, only to be sold decades later with a minuscule number of miles showing on the odometer. While it’s great to hear that the next owner is getting a low mileage car, think about all those priceless memories that the original owner could have experienced but elected not to. It’s somewhat sad when you think about it, and that takes us to this story that goes completely in the opposite direction.

Richard Cole has owned his 1969 Corvette Stingray for 56 years and the odometer now has an amazing 340,000 miles! Six months out of college, Richard says he came across the Cortez Silver Corvette listed for sale at a dealership for $3,900 but when he returned two days later the price had increased to $4,100. Despite the price hike, Richard purchased the car which was optioned with the base 300-hp V8 that was coupled to a four-speed manual transmission, positraction, and an optional radio.

After purchasing the car, Richard used it as his daily driver while living in St. Louis. No matter what the weather was like, Richard says his car was extremely reliable while others struggled in the sleet and snow. He also said the car would get up to 18 miles per gallon thanks to the 308 rear end installed. Unfortunately, the original motor in Richard’s car is long gone. His replacement engine was a 1973 350ci crate motor for the Corvette, and then that engine was rebuilt at around 150,000 miles. He used that opportunity to bore the engine out and put in a new cam.

These days, his Corvette driving usually consists of a weekend cruise down to the local Culvers restaurant. But hearing about all those miles and the number of memories Richard must has with that car is an amazing testament to Corvette ownership.

I met Richard, the owner of this Vette, at the Spanish Springs car show in The Villages, Florida, and I would have never guessed that this beautiful convertible’s odometer had turned over three times. Granted, the car is over 56 years old, but you don’t expect these classic cars to be high-mileage vehicles, even after undergoing a complete restoration. Then again, as Richard relates, this was his daily driver for more than 15 years and he drove it in all kinds of weather.
