On Thursday we shared some pics of a Chevrolet engineering team hitting the road in the all new 2025 Corvette ZR1. We first spied them in a parking lot which was said to be in Louisville, but then they showed up parked in front of a Cheddar’s restaurant in London, KY. With that info, it appears they are making their way south down Interstate 75.
Now we have the next sighting as the Corvette ZR1s headed over to the famous stretch of US129 that sits on the North Carolina/Tennessee state lines known as the Tail of the Dragon. That two-lane stretch of mountain road offers 318 curves over 11 miles so we can see why it would be fun to drive it in the new ZR1.
Previous prototypes have also tackled the Dragon including the C8 Z06 and the C8 Stingrays. The only pic of an E-Ray on the Tail of the Dragon was this crash photo, which is a reminder that the public road isn’t to be treated lightly because the consequences can be great.
Knowing that the ZR1 had traveled on the Tail of the Dragon, we visited 129Photos.com and purchased these photos for your viewing pleasure.
Where they turn up next is anyone’s guess.

“NICE”
Awesome, thanks for purchasing all those photos!
That is cool to see all of those ZR1’s on the Tail of the Dragon.
Love to see them show up to my Morrisville Cars and Coffee. It is one of the largest in the country with 3000+ cars normally in attendance here in NC.
ZR1 on the tail. Hmmm. About a superfluous 500 HP.
Betcha the E-Ray would be quicker through all the twisted because of that extra FWD pull and low end torque.
Just sayin’
Just wanted to confirm that the “Tail of the Dragon” is part of Hwy 129 (NOT “192” as commented in original article… in case anyone wants to ride that same route…
BTW — Hwy 129 continues into North Georgia toward Blairsville (and eventually to Athens) and from Blairsville, south, is “Blood Mountain” which is another VERY FUN section of road, complete with ‘Passing zones’ So you don’t get STUCK behind slower traffic. But be sure you have good brakes! There are a few downhill hairpins!!
And I will also mention that you will want to drive/ride BOTH sections in BOTH directions!! Very DIFFERENT experience in each direction! A downhill hairpin to the right, becomes an uphill hairpin to the left, in the opposite direction, etc.
