Corvettes for Sale: 1956 Corvette Offered on Craigslist

After the debut of the V8 engine in the ’55 Corvette, the ’56 received a new body design, completely different visually other than the nearly identical instrument panel. After just 700 units were sold in ’55, the ’56 marked a strong rebound with 3,467 cars built, saving the Corvette from being killed off.

Years later, someone blew up the motor in this 1956 two-top Corvette convertible, and it was stored away in a garage for 37 years with a blown head gasket.

But now that original 265 V8 with two four-barrel carburetors has been rebuilt less than 500 miles ago, and the owner has decided to part with his vintage beauty by offering it on craigslist out of the Desert Hills, Arizona area.

The asking price is $75,000.

That rebuilt engine, by the way, is said to still be mated with the original three-speed manual transmission and rear end.

The owner says this red-on-red color combination is the “best” one, and we’d have to agree that this car looks sharp, even with a repaint described as being more than 40 years old with “original waves in fiberglass that have not been block sanded out.” About that same time, we wonder if the current Sears & Roebuck tires may have also been installed because the owner believes they are 40+ years old but somehow “are still soft!” Despite his enthusiastic assessment, we’d be hard pressed to drive on such old tires decades later.
