If getting there is half the fun, then Derek Bieri of Vice Grip Garage is one happy fella.
In his latest adventure, the popular YouTuber has just dropped off his Chevy Nova at the Pennsylvania/New Jersey state line. Now, he’s got to figure out the best way to cover the roughly 1,000 miles back home to Tennessee, while making some fun stops at the Smithsonian and Biltmore House along the way.
Naturally, the best way to find such a vehicle that will be loads of fun to drive in a messy snowstorm on the Eastern Seaboard is to get on “FacePage” and buy the cheapest car he can find – naturally, a 40-year-old Corvette with almost 200,000 miles.
Fortunately, a mechanic named Brad has been caretaking the Corvette for the past 10 years and has done a lot of “tedious things” to it during that time.
Believe it or not, as Derek passes by loads of stranded motorists along the way, the trusty Corvette manages to make it safely into the nation’s capital and reaches the Smithsonian, even rolling over a big snowdrift in the low-riding Corvette that’s been serving as a quasi-snowplow all along the way.
Unfortunately, after trudging through that snow, he arrives at the Smithsonian only to discover that every single museum in the city is closed because of the weather. At least he does get to walk around the city and peer at the outside of the historic buildings and monuments in DC, without having to fight the usual crowds.
The next morning, Derek is up at 5 o’clock in 11-degree weather and reports the good news that he was able to buy a ticket to the Biltmore but has to really hustle to get there in time, not really sure “what I’m getting into” on the roads to North Carolina.
So, if you happen to have a spare 82 minutes and 18 seconds to watch this episode of Vice Grip Garage, we believe you’ll enjoy the experience. Perhaps the most impressive thing about the whole video is the way this 40-year-old Corvette takes everything thrown at it along the way – and survives! It definitely should be mandatory viewing for all those nay-sayers who are all gloom and doom about C4s, though admittedly there are some problems beginning to percolate by the time he reaches Tennessee.
As Derek proudly says at the end: “The cold ‘Vette has officially made it to southern Tennessee, well over 1,000 miles, multiple states, snowstorms, passes, mountain range. We saw incredible things along the way, and we had no breakdowns for once. It was actually a pretty enjoyable trip, other than the sketchy winter driving.”

The most impressive thing about the whole video is that it has a C4 in it that actually has a bright instrument panel. So many of the C4’s still out there don’t.
What’s up with the pic?
Having started to drive in snowny winters back in the 60′, first in a 289 Mustang then a GTO you put snow tires on and away you go.
This whole thing ‘you can’t drive RWD in the snow is BS,. Ground clearance on the Corvette of coarse is a big issue.
