The old adage that what goes up must come down was never more accurate than in the C8 Corvette market.

In the crazy early days of Mid-Engine Mania, it was very common for used C8s to sell for much more than their original sticker price.

But no longer.

The host of Four-wheel Trader who takes a deep dive on his YouTube channel into all the stats to identify trends in the prices of new and used cars points out in his latest post that prices of the mid-engine Corvette continue to plummet so far in 2024, continuing a trend that began in the summer of 2022.

But if you haven’t already taken the plunge and bought a C8 Stingray or Z06 over the past four years, you should rejoice.

“The good news for you as a value-conscious buyer,” according to Fourwheel Trader, “is that you are no longer buying at the market peak. The inevitable drop occurred and now is definitely a better moment to buy than last year.”

The depreciation rate for the 2023 Z06 has especially plummeted, he says, noting that prices have dropped 31.6% as premiums above MSRP have evaporated. Looking at the charts built by Fourwheel Trader, it appears to me that if you were wise enough to buy from a dealer at MSRP, you should be seeing zero depreciation at worst.

Used Stingray prices have been falling at an annual rate of 12.9%, but if you want to save even more and minimize your losses, Fourwheel Trader suggests that you wait for the usual seasonal discounts this winter.

“But if you want a new car, be aware that they are being discounted now and that it can pay off to shop around until you find one below MSRP,” he says.

C8s were seemingly immune to depreciation in the first couple of years of production, but now that Bowling Green is pumping out 50,000 a year, the demand is finally starting to be met and prices are falling.

That’s certainly great news if you want to climb behind the wheel of what many consider the greatest Corvette ever but don’t have bottomless pockets.

  1. Car repossessions rise 23% in 2024 over last year!
Most Americans don’t have any savings to speak of, and can’t cover an emergency medical procedure or a car repair. If the car you owe a $1,000 a month, needs something as simple as tires, it could be the personal crisis that snowballs into bankruptcy. Things don’t look great out there, folks. Hunker down, and maybe consider buying a smaller and more economical car to weather the storm.

    Many thanks,
    Ray

  2. I would never pay even sticker for a new vehicle, I figured if I waited, this day would finally come around, which is why I am waiting until my 2nd mortgage is paid off, which will be before the end of next year, to order the exact C8 that I want and it will be pretty much all paid for, might finance 10 to 15 K.

  3. guys , when you get ‘Old’……time driving that C8 can’t be compared to a few stacks of Benneez…. I have 52K on my 2020 coupe and i walk by lexus and bmw’s , everyday to get in that damn C8. The C8 is the Best car I have ever owned. At 52K there are no leaks, squeeks, drips , leaks, wind noise…..That is what i said in 93 when i bought my 1st SC400, this car is much better…… So , I’m glad ya’ll may save a few bucks , I’m sad for ya , that ya’lll have missed the Joy of the ride….. time is priceless….. peace to all

  4. Hi Bill,
I walk pass my 458 and 66 Mustang GT 350 replica to take my daily driver C8 to my destinations except when I take the dogs, then it’s the boring yet comfortable SUV.

  5. As for that “joy of the ride” stuff…all you had to do was rent one. 🤣😅🤣😂😂😂😂😂😂

  6. Ya typical of anything new and exciting, now more people will be able to buy. I’m not one of them which is unfortunate but I’m happy with my very nice low mile 11′ C6 GS 3LT manual in Crystal Red met.

  7. Hey Raylan, you’re a buzz kill be quiet. The sky is not falling. People like you just make things worse, like the recession that never cam. This disparity has been with us for many decades, people figure it out or lose it. pretty simple.

  8. All depends on the state that is selling them I think. Here in Arizona, the cost of a new C8 is still being marked up. That is why I will be buying my Vette from outside Arizona or I just but a C7 instead, which I am thinking of doing.

  9. John + youwer,
I live in California and bought my C8 in NJ from Kerbeck (now Ciocca) in January of 21 for that very reason.
There are a few dealers that sell at MSRP.
Chevrolet also has a courtesy delivery where they will ship to a dealer of your choice if dealer approves even though you purchase from another dealer. The dealer in Calif charged me $500 to receive the car, prep and I picked up close to home.

    Have a nice day.

  10. just bought 24 c8 in july and paid 5k under the msrp. i live in california but went to texas because my local dealer was greedy trying to sell it over the msrp. love it, its amplified orange and I added my own stripes and it looks stunning
