[POLL] HOT OR NOT? Should Chevy Offer Purple for the C8 Corvette?

I’ve been thunderstruck by a car that doesn’t exist. Actually, the car is real, but these images showcasing a purple Corvette C8 Z06 are simply the work of a digital artist on Instagram. I first saw it over the weekend, and it’s been in my head ever since.

When the first C8 Corvettes started arriving at dealerships four years ago, we’ve been thinking about which colors deserve to be on this car. Not just the standard Black, Red, and White hues. We’re talking exotic colors like those found on other sportscars around the world. Alex offered his take back in 2020 with an article about Purple as part of his series on Colors we’d like to see on the C8 Corvette.

In the 70 years of Corvettes, we’ve really only seen Purple a few times. There were the Black Rose Corvettes offered from 1992-1994 and again in 2017-2018. Chevy painted 1995-96 Corvettes a shade of Dark Purple Metallic which was a good-looking color. The 1998 model year offered Medium Purple Pearl Metallic which remains a favorite of ours. Only 381 were built in the color and Chevy moved on from it the following year. Of course, there is also the 1998 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car which offered a Dark Purple paired with yellow race stripes and wheels. Call me crazy, but I don’t think anyone wants to see that combo again.

Going back to our subject, these CGI images on Instagram are the work of Rashad Harper (@412donklife) and he says the color is Purple Heart Metallic with custom Lexani Aries wheels. As far as we know, Chevy has never had a purple color in this shade, but I think the world may be ready for it. It’s got plenty of “travel” as a designer might say, and it’s balanced very well with the contrasting black trim and aero on the Z06.

The Lexani wheel choice also glams up this Corvette, but we’re not a fan of low-profile tires for a car like the C8. The nice thing about this Purple Heart Metallic is that we think you can go either way by outfitting it with a set of chrommies (the E-Ray’s polished wheel would work very well) or you can go with Black alloy rims to keep the more sinister look.

We are expecting up to three color changes for the 2025 model year so maybe there’s a chance, but more likely the only way we would see a really vibrant color like this on a C8 Corvette is to wrap it ourselves. But as we like to do, let’s ask the Corvette Nation your thoughts on this color.

Would you order a Purple painted C8 Corvette if it looked like this?

  1. I have always loved Black Rose… and the purple they offered on the later C4’s was pretty nice, too.

I am not sure if this exact shade is right, but it sure is a statement! I would look more at the Aston-Martin Red Amethyst or Lamborghini’s Nero Amethyst. Those befit an upmarket car more than this shade, I feel.

  2. I have a 2017 Z06 Black Rose. I feel this color might gain some traction but it reminds me of the Plum Crazy Mopars of the ‘70s.

  3. HELL YES, (without even reading the article) and maybe a lime green (something a bit snappier than Cacti). Many of the foreigns offer these.

  4. Was going to order a 2023 C8 Coupe in Red Mist but fell in love with the 70th HTC in Carbon Flash and went with that. Couldn’t be happier. Get the color you love, you drive it,others don’t. No matter how wild or different.

  5. Not too bad looking, but the purple wheels make it too much purple. I personally am a red guy, not the regular reds but the darker ones and the Red Mist, that’s probably the color I will order if it is still around for 2026

  6. Love the color. I think it is due for the style of the car. The wheels are another thing, maybe yes maybe no.

  7. I also have a 2017 Black Rose Metallic C7Z, but it’s definitely far from the bright bold purple that these pictures show. In my opinion, part of the attraction to BRM was that it looks black in low light, all the way to having deep purple reflections in sunlight. These pictures are just in your face purple, but I can see how some people would like it.
