Corvettes for Sale: 1998 Corvette Convertible in Rare Medium Purple Metallic

Corvettes from the C5 generation have been making a resurgence as enthusiasts recognize the great performance values that these cars offer. Not only that, but it was also the generation that offered several different niche colors including one of our favorites, Medium Purple Metallic.

The second year of C5 production kicked off in 1998 and it featured the introduction of the C5 Corvette convertible model to join the Coupe model introduced a year earlier. The Corvette Convertible would grab all kinds of headlines with its wild Indy 500 Pace Car Edition, and the model year would be named the 1998 Motor Trend Car of the Year.

The 1998 Convertible was also noteworthy for it being the first Corvette with an actual trunk. The last Corvette sold with an exterior trunk was the 1962 model. Another of the headlines from the day was that it was 114 lbs lighter than the 1996 Corvette convertible but had four-times the tortional stiffness thanks to the new hydroformed frame rails.

The model year featured 12 external colors and several new colors were introduced for the year including Light Pewter Metallic and Medium Purple Metallic. Also returning from 1997 were two very rare colors: Fairway Green and Nassau Blue. Medium Purple would be a one-year-only shade and only 381 Corvettes would feature the color with 229 Coupes and 152 Convertibles produced.

Offered for sale on Chicago’s Craigslist is a 1998 Corvette Convertible in Medium Purple Metallic. It has 67K miles and features an automatic transmission, black convertible top, and polished five-spoke wheels. The seller says the car is actually located in South Bend, Indiana

The Purple Corvette is listed for sale for $16,900. We hit the Hagerty Valuation guide and they show 1998 convertibles in good condition selling for $18,000 so this could be a great weekend car or starter Corvette for someone new to the hobby. While this car is priced affordably, we believe the rare color is the main selling feature. After all, when is the last time you saw a purple Corvette from the factory?
