Corvettes for Sale: Supercharged 1970 Corvette is a Real Life Hot Wheels

Growing up in the ’60s and ’70s, I always loved the custom C3s of the day – just like this survivor 1970 coupe currently being offered for $25,000 on craigslist by the North Hills, California owner.

Some might liken it to owning a real-life Hot Wheels car.

Indeed, the seller says he bought the Stingray intending it to be a solid base for a resto-mod, but “when I saw how cool the paint was, I just could not bring myself to grind it all away.”

He even went on to amplify the ’70s vibe, adding the gold sparkle steering wheel, interior, pinstripes, and other groovy elements.

So the car still features its “original, old” custom lowrider style paint with “minor flaws, when you look at it up close.” The seller includes photos of the more obvious problem areas, but overall it is indeed a very cool paint job worthy of being saved.

The paint isn’t the only retro part of the car, though. We really dig the wild custom interior with purple shag carpet, purple and gold sparkle vinyl interior accents, decorative etching on the windows, and black velour on the dash and door panels, along with shoulder harnesses on the Autopower roll bar welded to the frame.

The coolest part for us, though, has to be that cartoonish-looking engine poking out of the hood. It’s not numbers-matching, obviously, but the Chevy 400 does include a Dyers SV-71 roots supercharger with two new boost-referenced Holley 650CFM dual quad carburetors, polished aluminum intake scoop, a Griffin aluminum racing radiator, dual electric fans, and side exhaust pipes. It’s connected to a Muncie four-speed manual transmission and has a 3:70 rear end.

Other features include chrome accents “everywhere,” a heavy duty rear spring, offset trailing arms, sway bars, aftermarket shocks, stainless steel calipers, ignition handled by a MSD 6A, and MSD boost timing master to reduce timing per pound of boost. The boost retard controller is under the dash, and a boost gauge has been added on the steering column. It’s said to be making around 10 pounds of boost and is supported by dual fuel pumps, dual fuel filters, dual pressure regulators, and separate fuel lines from the tank to each carb. You won’t find power steering, power brakes, or air conditioning.

But while you may not be very cool physically, you’ll still be the coolest dude in your neighborhood when you’re listening to the classics on your retro-look stereo that plays CDs and MP3s with USB and Bluetooth input on the upgraded speakers in the dash, kick panels, and two modern 6×9 speakers in the back.
