The driver of a silver C6 Corvette coupe eventually managed to elude authorities in California Saturday night after a lengthy chase that reached speeds of more than 160 mph.
Lawmen finally decided to call off the pursuit after several close calls with other drivers.
The chase began around 11 p.m. in Baldwin Park after authorities first tried to stop the driver for speeding. When he refused to pull over, he turned on the 10 Freeway and drove through Los Angeles, Encino, and Tarzana. That’s when authorities decided to stop the pursuit near Thousand Oaks because of the high speeds.
Aerial video from an NBC4 News chopper shows the Corvette weaving in and out of traffic on U.S. 101 South, with at least one patrol car right behind. An inset in the video shows the speed of the Corvette at one point reaching a high of 163 mph as he whizzes past another car.
Even a spike strip deployed by police during the chase failed to make the driver yield.
No reports on whether police were able to identify the car through its license plates.

How well do spike strips work on run-flats (asking for a friend)?
This is absurd. This cowardice by CHP does nothing but teach other villains exactly what they have to do to get away. Far more lives will be lost in the long run. Eluding police at speeds in excess of 160mph on urban highways presents an immediate threat to loss of life and/or grave bodily harm–deadly force is legally justified. Open fire with a large caliber weapon from the helicopter airship to stop the threat and end the pursuit.
Defending the police gets you this. Probably had eight illegals stuffed in the back. Border patrol waived them through.
Who had several close calls? The police or the Corvette?
