Corvettes for Sale: Left-Over Turkey? Brown 1976 Corvette Offered for $12,500

Back in the ’70s, our family thought we were in high cotton when we finally got a coppertone brown refrigerator instead of our boring old-school white one. That was right after we had picked up our first color TV and signed up for cable, by the way.

Browns were definitely in vogue in those days, with cars like the very popular Oldsmobile Cutlass looking especially sharp in brown with a lighter-colored landau top.

So you might say it was really “groovy” for us seeing this brown 1976 Corvette coupe for sale on Craigslist out of the Saline, Michigan area for $12,500.

While it might not be the most popular color these days, back then nearly 10 percent of the 46,558 Corvettes that year came in Code 69 Dark Brown Metallic – the fourth most popular shade behind Classic White, Silver Metallic, and Red.

This example is still wearing its original brown paint, other than on the replacement front and rear bumpers, and it’s described as remaining in “nice driver quality” condition with a nice shine other than some scattered imperfections.

Despite its lackluster performance, with the standard L48 350 V8 engine that produced just 180hp and 270 ft/lbs of torque, doing the quarter-mile in a “blistering” 17.2 seconds, the seller promises the car runs and drives “outstanding,” “needs nothing,” and is “ready to drive and enjoy.”

Besides those new bumpers, the seller has also installed new front brakes and master cylinder, shocks, sway bar bushings, power steering pump and valve, battery, and air conditioning compressor already converted to R134a. That AC blows cold, by the way.

He’s also taken care of routine maintenance, changing all fluids (oil, transmission, rear end, brake, power steering, and antifreeze).

It’s too bad that ’76 was the first year without a convertible because a tan ragtop would have really contrasted well with the dark brown paint below.

Fortunately, helping out in that area is the complementary Buckskin leather interior that, by the way, has held up nicely over the past 71,500 miles.

How about you – would you enjoy a quick trip back to the past in this brown Stingray?
