Corvettes for Sale: 50-Year-Owned 1963 Corvette Split Window

We ran across this 1963 Corvette Sting Ray split window coupe on TikTok, where we saw the gentleman who’s owned it for the past 50 years sitting behind the wheel one last time.

As you might expect, he’s getting up in years now and finds it hard to climb in and out of the car, so he sold his ’63 along with his ’98 in a package deal to California dealership Dodi Auto Sales, where the SWC is now up for sale for $149,500.

The gentleman bought the car in the early ‘70s and it’s obviously been taken care of over the past half century, with many receipts provided for some of the extensive service performed during that time.

The car originally was Silver Blue Metallic, but shortly after he bought it, the owner changed it over to white. Believe it or not, that nearly 50-year-old “deep and glossy” paint is still in pretty good shape, with only a few nicks on the front and rear and a half-dollar-sized spot just behind the driver’s door. He added chrome wire wheels and flared rear fenders to make room for bigger tires, which really combine to give it a sporty look in our opinion.

The numbers-matching 327/300 horsepower V8 engine was rebuilt about 15,000 miles ago and is still mated to the original Muncie four-speed manual transmission with an aftermarket Hurst shifter.

The seller says the car “runs and drives great,” describing the motor as “very healthy” with a “great sound” and “plenty of power.” The transmission “shifts smoothly” through all the gears, he adds, and the clutch and brakes “feel excellent,” as does the power steering.

“This car is ready for whatever journey you would like to take it on,” he adds. By the way, the car had about 50,000 miles on the odometer when the long-time owner bought it, and over the past 50 years, he’s only added about 15,000 more, preferring to use it mostly on local outings and using his ’98 for road trips.

The blue interior still looks great in the dealership video about the car, and while the salesman doesn’t know whether it’s original or not, it definitely is in great condition with the factory AM/FM radio and gauges still in place. Even the clock still works!

Hopefully, the new owner will get a chance to talk with the previous caretaker, who no doubt could share lots of stories about his period of stewardship with this beautiful split-window. We’re sure it was an emotional time for him to part with his “old friend.”

  1. Corvette purists would cringe but personally I like the flared fenders and wide wheels and tires.

  2. Robert…me too.

The wheels are killer, what’s the brand and
could something like those still be bought?

  3. Lose the ugly fender flares and wheels .Then return it
to the original blue it was born with. Then it will fetch some serious money
