Corvettes for Sale: Fuelie 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible Hits Bring a Trailer

There’s nothing quite as classy and beautiful as a Sebring Silver second-generation Corvette.

Witness this Sting Ray that underwent a costly restoration back around the turn of the century (receipts pictured) and was subsequently enjoyed on the open road by its owner.

Now this vintage convertible is up for sale on Bring a Trailer, where the high bid has climbed to $55,000 with six days left in the auction.

If you think it’s cheap to restore a car, take a look at the stacks and stacks of receipts for this car that climbs into the tens of thousands of dollars for things like a new paint job, an overhaul of the suspension, and updating the carpet and door panels.

But since only 2,610 Corvettes were optioned with the $430.40 fuel-injected 327/360 horsepower V8 engine in 1963, it was worth every dollar, especially when paired with a four-speed manual transmission. In 2002, that engine and fuel injection system were rebuilt along with the transmission when an aftermarket exhaust was also installed. Recent work includes new spark plug wires and an oil change in August 2023.

This car looks especially sharp to us with its matching auxiliary hardtop, an option chosen by about half of the 10,919 convertibles built that year.

The car is nice but not perfect, the selling dealer admits. He says that the side arms do not sit flat above the side windows when the top is raised, and blemishes include wear on the windshield from the wipers, pitting on the quarter window surrounds, paint chips on the hood inserts, and a paint run on the hood behind the right insert.

Those imperfections might be just the ticket for someone who wants a nice Sting Ray but not one so nice they’re afraid to put it on the road for fear of getting the first scratch.
