Corvette Assembly Plant Shuts Down Due to Temporary Parts Shortage

We heard the rumor earlier and it appears to have been confirmed. The Corvette Assembly Plant operated today with the first shift reporting. The 2nd shift was cancelled due to a temporary parts shortage.

The assembly plant will also miss production operations with Wednesday’s first shift and then 2nd shift will report back to work later in the afternoon. At least that’s the plan that was described to us.

According to our friends at the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com, the source of the temporary parts supply issue is due to a shortage of aluminum castings from GM’s Bedford, Indiana plant.

If there are any other updates, we’ll let you know!

  1. More sensationalized click bait from this site! I worked at the bmw plant for 9 years and it’s common (especially in the last few years) for the plant to skip shifts to balance out a parts shortage. That’s NOT the same as the plant “shutting down”. Being closed for weeks would constitute that term.
