Corvettes for Sale: 1969 Corvette T-Top Coupe with L46 350/350 and a 4-Speed Manual

Before the Corvette began its shift to a more luxurious sports car in the 1970s, with automatic transmissions becoming the rule, customers in the 1960s loved climbing behind the wheel of their Stingrays and shifting gears the old-fashioned way.

Indeed, only 8,161 of the 38,762 Corvettes from 1969 left the St. Louis factory with a Turbo Hydra-Matic automatic transmission.

Fortunately, the rest were four-speed manuals, like this black on black chrome-bumper beauty being offered on Bring a Trailer.

It’s hard to argue with the appearance of a Stingray in such a color combination, and apparently bidders agree as this one has already hit $16,000 with six days remaining in the auction.

An original Tuxedo Black car, this one is said to have been recoated in the same color by a previous owner, and photos with the listing show the new paint seems to remain in nice condition.

Likewise with the interior, where the black vinyl, dash, console, and carpets look just as good as the exterior.

The car is one of 12,846 built that year with the upgraded 350/350 horsepower L46 V8 engine that was a $131.65 option. A new clutch was installed back in August, and the underside was reconditioned by an earlier owner. And what do you think about those red-line BFGoodrich Silvertown 215/70 tires that add a nice touch of contrast to the appearance?

  1. They never mention the condition of the bird cage. A few close ups around the windshield or door jambs would help.

  2. Had same equipment on a white ’69 coupe with red interior bought new. Loved the car, especially the 350/350 with 4-speed, and still miss it. On receiving orders for overseas in 1970, sold it to a lady school teacher in Wichita Falls, TX (resulting in a $200 loss). Hope she’s still enjoying it!
