It may not be the perfect C5, but this ’98 coupe up for sale at $22,500 on Craigslist out of the Camas, Washington area definitely has some of the best photos we’ve seen in a long time.

The car is one of only 22.3 percent of ’98 Corvettes equipped with a six-speed manual transmission, one of 21.2 percent of ’98s painted black, and one of just 825 coupes ordered with the Firethorne Red interior. Though the owner says exact records weren’t kept by Chevrolet, he uses a little math equation to estimate only 39 such coupes were built like his car.
“Who knows how many of these have been drifted, tracked, thrashed, crashed, horribly modified, or have high mileage,” he points out in the listing.
He calls it “one of the most tasteful specifications for a C5 Corvette” and the reason behind his purchase in January 2021.
“In the time I’ve owned this vehicle I have searched for other similar examples across various sales platforms many times,” he says, “and I have not been able to find any.”
The 25-year-old car has been driven 69,750 miles, or about 2,790 per year, and it’s been serviced regularly, at least by the current owner. For example, he had the oil and brake fluids changed and checked for leaks during a June 2023 service by Pro-Tek Automotive in Portland, Oregon and had the steering column recall performed last month by Ron Tonkin Chevrolet. He also has receipts for two new 275/40R Continental Extreme Contact DWS06+ tires installed in November 2022.
The car likely looks so nice in the listing photos because it underwent an ultimate eight-hour detail at Gallagher Auto Spa on July 13, 2023.
Light modifications include K&N air intake, C6 Corvette wheels, aftermarket Pioneer stereo and speakers with 10-inch kicker, VMS Racing lowering bolts, rear muffler delete with custom welded tips, upgraded LED headlight bulbs, LED taillights and DRLs from VetteLights.
The owner points out there are some paint chips and scratches, a small rip on the passenger seat, and a stain on the carpet in the hatchback.
Overall, though, he believes it is becoming “increasingly difficult” to locate a nice C5, and if you want “a great example, this is the car for you.”
His Corvette “drives really well and has put countless smiles on my face,” he says, adding that his ownership experience “has been terrific and virtually free of issues.”

My 1998 C5 Black Couple was one of the first NCM delivery in late Oct 97. I was the only NCM delivery that day. I put 155,000 miles on it and sold it in 2014 for $10,000 eBay auction. $22,500 is a good deal. Great Car.
Little bit of a sales pitch but $22,500 is a little pricey in today’s market. I see nice 2003-2004 C5s in my area for this number.
