A lot of the heavy lifting has already been completed for the new owner of this 1961 Corvette convertible.
Now, this partially restored red-on-red C1 is being offered at no reserve on eBay, where the high bid has climbed to $28,100 with the auction coming to a close on Wednesday.
According to the listing, the previous owner started the restoration with a new paint job and interior and did at least some cosmetic work mechanically, with the single-carb 283 V8 engine getting a new spray of orange, too. The condition of the four-speed manual transmission will need to be confirmed, too.
Once the new owner makes it to Miami, Florida to pick up the car, they will have an easier time rolling the non-running vehicle onto a trailer once the sale is completed, as the car is said to already roll and steer.
Not many other details are offered about this Corvette, though photos show it will come with a matching hardtop that will need new glass, as will the driver’s door.
You might call this a WYSIWYG car since the listing says “what you see is what you get,” with no extra parts included. We’re not sure what the condition of the soft top is since it’s not visible in photos, so that will definitely be an item for the new owner to check out.
The ’61 set a sales record for Corvette with 10,939 convertibles produced at the St. Louis factory. It would be the first Corvette without heavy “teeth” in the grille and the last to have the side coves available with contrasting paint, the headlight bezels were painted body color instead of being chrome, and the rear end was restyled with a boat-tail rear with four round taillights as a preview of the upcoming ’63 Sting Ray.
