Chevy (Finally) Responds to Our Story about Parked Corvette Z06s Waiting Parts

Last week, CorvetteBlogger offered up a report on how Chevrolet is building Corvette Z06s without certain parts and then is retrofitting those parts once they become available. This has led to customers saying their new Corvette Z06s were stuck at 3800 status for weeks on end.

In preparing the article, we had exclusive photos from a drone showing a parking lot at the assembly plant stuffed with new Corvettes. We sent these photos to our contact at Chevrolet one week before publication, and also included several emails from customers and even a customer’s order number so that they would have all the info to research what was happened and provide us with a statement that we could share with Z06 customers waiting for their cars.

After waiting a full week for that response which never came, we published the article last Thursday. The story took off and it was shared like crazy on the Forums and Facebook. When reading the comments on these posts, you would see buyers responding about how long their cars have been at status 3800 and that there was no communication about what was taking so long.

Finally, five days after publication, Chevrolet has responded to our story and provided this statement…to MotorTrend:

“The industry continues to experience temporary parts shortages due to a number of circumstances. Bowling Green has been impacted by this so we have taken steps to keep production running to meet continued strong demand. As a result, we are building some vehicles without specific parts and will retrofit those vehicles as the parts become available before they are shipped to customers. We are working to resolve these issues as soon as possible.”

While we are disappointed that we were unable to share this in the original post at the time of publication, we are glad to see a statement that addressed this issue was put out there. The situation with these cars is far from ideal, and buyers deserve to know what is happening when their vehicles are parked for weeks without end.

  1. Yep,don’t hear a word. Mine built8/10. Waiting for something..dealer called week ago said finnally got invoice that it was completed and I could pay for it,I did..now waiting for it’s turn to truck it across street to museum and wait for my time to pick up, whitch I’ve heard could be 2-4 weeks,,if that long I’ll just have Plycar pick it up and skip museum delivery, write it off and won’t ever do again, bought 5 new c7s and my 2nd c8 this one being Z06…not happiest but what ever..

  2. Hidden UV in-cabin damage, tire flat spots with potential sidewall damage, paint correction needs,…add up as the days and weeks go by. I ordered this vehicle without constraints from GM Bowling Green Assembly (BGA). The lack of communication and level setting a customer expectation is poor management and leadership. There are hundreds of customers in this situation, and it isn’t acceptable.

What is GM going to do for these customers? Extra GM points, knock off the 6-month no flipping warranty silliness, provide paint correction payment to those that invoice them (this is coming), replace the tires to be safer for driving…? GM, do something, anything besides “parts are hard to get…oh well, sucks to be you customer”.

  3. I totally agree Matt, I will also have to do the paint correction and worried about the tires, my Z06 with Z07 package 70th edition pearl white was built 08/14/23 and still as of today (09/03/23) it has not have a invoice, almost 2 months. I purchased lots of cars in my life, but I NEVER seen or heard of something like this, no RESPECT at all with customers, and most important, these are NOT cheap cars, GM should composite these customer’s with something, even credit the destination fee, just something for their mess up.

  4. Yep, what a mess. NOT HAPPY!! Went “status 3800” August 9th, still 3800. Nobody knows anything. I’m not a flipper, I want this car. It sits outside for months and comes with problems, paint, tires etc. I’m going to be pissed. Taking it to the dealer for repairs will be scary, lots of horror stories. GM better step up when I finally get the car.

  5. My 2023 70th Anniversary Stingray Convertible was built the week of 8/7 and still no word as to when is going to be delivered. It is very upsetting and I am also concerned as to what kind of damage the UV rays can do to the microfiber interior after sitting in the sun for almost two months. I hope and pray that there is no damage. These are very expensive vehicles and as a customer I am expecting nothing less than a great product.

  6. Evelio, While I’m waiting for my 2023 Z06, I have a 2023 70th Anniversary Stingray Convertible for sale, Carbon Flash Metallic 800 miles on it. $105,400.00 MSRP. No Waiting.

  7. Since I posted last night, I checked with Chevrolet Concierge this morning and now it moved to status 4000 Vehicle Available to Ship. However, they tell me that it could take another 2 weeks or so to ship.

  8. Let’s just add another $2,000.00 to the base cost of the car. That will make you feel better!
You know you are getting terrific bargain at the price that is being asked, even with dealer mark ups for Z06–so they tell you. These cars are exceeding the price of a nicely equipped 911. But, hey, you only pay Chevy cost for an oil change! Enjoy the wait.

  9. I am one of those people. My car was produced and status 3800 8/25, but I am still waiting. Then I have noticed many cars with higher VINs produced later than mine that are have been completed. My theory is and my biggest frustration is that despite the parts shortage, GM is not retrofitting cars in sequence. They should do the oldest ones first but they are doing it randomly, probably based on whichever cars are easily accessible. That’s the biggest frustration for me at this point.

  10. I park my 12 year old Crown Vic in a garage because I’m afraid of UV damage to the dash and the paint…. cannot imagine how unbelievably upset some people are knowing their “Dream Car” is baking in the sun for months on end.

Whoever allowed that to happen is an absolute joker. Barnum and Bailey levels of Clown Show here. Unacceptable to let these cars sit in outside unprotected like that.

  11. Don’t give them your money, it’s as simple as that. Once when out looking to purchase a sports car I stopped at a Ferrari dealer but they didn’t want me to sit in the car, for fear of damaging seats so I left and purchased a 911 Turbo. The People at the Porche dealer couldn’t wait to show me how awesome their product was. Don’t buy anything from anyone unless they have respect for the CUSTOMER!
