[VIDEO] EddieX Offers a Comparison of the E-Ray and Z06 on Track

Are you one of the enthusiasts whose torn between buying the C8 Corvette Z06 with its high-revving 5.5L 670-hp V8 screamer, or do you like the idea of owning the quickest Corvette produced as the 655-hp E-Ray is capable of a 2.5 second 0-60 mph sprint and can run the quarter in 10.5 seconds at 129 mph?

Decisions, decisions.

YouTuber EddieX is a Corvette Z06 owner who was also at Chevrolet’s recent E-Ray Ride and Drive event held in Colorado at Pikes Peak International Raceway. He made this video comparing the new 2024 Corvette E-Ray on the track to the 2023 Corvette Z06 which he drove the following day at Spring Mountain’s Corvette Owner’s School. So it’s not a true comparison video, but we do get to hear his impressions while driving both cars. So let’s go!

“The Z06 is very much a race car for the road”, say’s Eddie. “I’ve already driven the E-Ray a good amount yesterday and I can tell you it feels much more well rounded, Grand Touring, all year round, but still has that capability.”

Eddie drove the E-Ray on the Track with the ZER package which features the summer performance tires from Michelin and he also mentions the car is in the Charge+ mode to maximize battery performance. He describes the E-Ray as feeling a bit heavier and “numb” without the sound of the Z06’s shrieking V8 behind you, which he says dominates the entire Z06 experience.

Taking the car out of Charge+, Eddie says that seemed to make it “happier” and he is still impressed with the E-Ray’s performance levels and grip. He also calls the standard-option Carbon Ceramic brakes perfect.

To sum up his experience in the E-Ray, EddieX says:

“I am not a race car driver, but I feel that it definitely is pretty confidence inspiring, has high limits, and electrification has not diminished the performance at all. It has absolutely enhanced it. Way more capable than the regular Corvette Stingray, and the feel of that torque and the sound of that electric motor pulling, it is definitely really unique.”

Next we see Eddie behind the wheel of the Corvette Z06 at the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School. Being on the track is “where this car belongs…where it shines,” he says. Eddie brings up his first point in the E-Ray, saying the sound from the Z06 is “intoxicating” and that the LT2 cannot compete with it.

I think in the hands of a very capable driver the Z06 will definitely, definitely be a faster car around a track. You just can’t get away from that weight and especially a car like this. Tthis is a Z07, and if it was running the cup 2R tires I mean that would make a massive difference. E-Ray is capable on track, but it’s not what it’s designed for. This car feels at home here on the track, The E-Ray felt more at home on the canyon roads, trying all sorts of different terrain situations.”

Eddie made some interesting observations about both cars, but they were also coming from a slightly biased Z06 owner. “I love the Z06” was something Eddie said several times and I think he even sang it while on the track at Spring Mountain. Give it a watch below:

  1. I would like to see a real road racing driver that both cars out on the same track doing back to back stints and see how the cars compare
If GM is listening I have access to a super AutoX sight and race track and SCCA champion drivers.
