[VIDEO] Doug DeMuro Reviews the 2024 Corvette E-Ray

Following the January 17th reveal of the 2024 Corvette E-Ray, automotive reviewer Doug DeMuro had a chance to review the car as it was on display at the Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. Now, the Cars and Bids founder has another shot to review the all-new performance-hybrid sports car which features all the things he likes about it, including the quirks and his driving impressions from time spent behind the wheel.

Doug starts off by saying the concept of a “hybrid Corvette” sounds pretty lame until you start looking at the numbers. That’s because this hybrid Corvette starts off with the same 495-hp powertrain found in the standard Stingray, and then its topped with the 160-hp electric front motor which them offers a combined 655-hp front and back. Chevy calls it the first performance hybrid that recharges its batteries when you drive, so no worries about range or having to plug it in.

DeMuro says this is definitely not some eco-focused hybrid that’s concerned about fuel economy ratings. In fact, the fuel economy ratings are the same at the Stingray (16 city/24 highway – 19 combined). “Your hybrid Corvette doesn’t actually get better mileage, it only gets better performance,” says DeMuro.

Taking a look at the exterior, Doug loves the new 5-spoke wheels for the E-Ray, calling them “Ferrari-like” in their design. He calls the exterior E-Ray badge understated, as if Chevy doesn’t want to majorly differentiate the “performance-hybrid” model from the other C8 models, but inside the car you’ll see the E-Ray name on the door sills, steering wheel, and rear interior badge under the middle speaker.

Doug points out the two console buttons on the E-Ray that are exclusive to the model. The first the Auto Start/Stop button which shuts down the engine at stoplights for fuel economy, while the the other is the Charge+ button designed to keep the E-Ray’s batteries topped off while offering more battery performance for longer stints.

Once behind the wheel, Doug finds the sounds from the front electric drive motor to be pretty cool. Mashing down on the accelerator, Doug says “wow, it’s really fast.” He adds, “I already think the regular C8 is fast, but this is clearly noticeably faster than the regular C8.”

“I kind of was wondering, like, without the Z06 ride harshness and bigger engine and the sound, is it really going to feel that much faster? The answer is yeah, it is quite a bit faster. It feels quite a bit faster and it’s it’s impressive.”

The Doug Score for the E-Ray is right there with its rivals and other C8 Corvette models. The car scored a 64 out of 100 and was comparable to the 64 from the C8 Stingray and the Z06’s 66.

Doug’s final thoughts on the 2024 Corvette E-Ray:

“The E-Ray is an awesome car with amazing performance, but it has a bit of a strange role. It’s fast like the ZO6, but more of a cruiser like the regular C8. Yet, quite a bit more expensive than the standard C8. I think most people who want a C8 will just save their money and keep buying the regular one. It’s fast enough. Well, the E-Ray isn’t brawny enough to steal sales from the ZO6, but it does present an interesting option for people who want a cruiser that can also smoke hypercars at a stoplight.”

  1. In the C7 I traded up from the Stingray to the wide body GS.
The C8 Stingray is already as wide as the C7 wide body and the C8 Z or eRay is even wider. Fitting inside the garage door is a careful maneuver for my C8. I would buy an eRay in a heartbeat but for the entry an exit issue.

  2. We owned one of the first Honda Insite hybrids. The battery pack died ftom lack of use. Many Corvette owners drive their cars sparingly with lengthy storage during inclement weather. How do we keep the battery pack charged?
