The automotive world has definitely changed a lot since Chevrolet introduced the Corvette in 1953.

But what if you could go back in time and add all the modern technology introduced over the past 70 years to a first-year Corvette?

Well, Dave Kindig and his Kindig-It Designs based in Salt Lake City, Utah have done the next best thing, introducing their take on a modern ’53 Corvette they designated as the Kindig CF1 during the 2021 SEMA Show. While the title calls it a 1953 Corvette Kit Car, the CF1 is far above the simple kits from the ’70s!

Now, a custom Kindig CF1 commissioned this year by Corvette Mike in California and showing only 104 miles on the odometer is being sold on Bring a Trailer, where the current bid is a whopping $215,053, with six days left in the auction. Corvette Mike tells us even if you could commission your own CF1, the wait times for the custom roadster are over two years and build costs could be as much as half a million dollars.

That figure, though, is still far from what it would cost to construct such a car, with its lightweight 291-lb. carbon-fiber body built by Doug’s Performance Corvette in Lakewood, Washington, and coated in Caviar metallic paint by Modern Classikk. We really “dig” the clamshell hood, curved windshield, projector headlights, chrome-finished trim, and dual exhaust outlets exiting the rear bodywork, not to mention the little details like the fuel filler hidden in the left taillight and the battery maintainer accessible through the other taillight.

The body also features stretched doors, elongated cabin, and lowered footwells compared to the original ’53. As Kindig says, “Back in the ’50s, it seems like people were smaller. We wanted our car to be comfortable and fit modern humans.”

Underneath that body is a modified Roadster Shop Spec 7 full chassis with rack-and-pinion power steering and fully independent Corvette C7-based suspension.

Meanwhile, a beautifully done Lingenfelter-built 7.0-liter LS7 V8 engine resides under the hood and pumps out 673 horsepower and 618 lb-ft of torque – fitted with a Borla 8-Stack fuel injection system with individual throttle bodies, Kindig CF1-branded finned valve covers, Ultimate stainless-steel headers, and a Tru-Trac serpentine pulley system and hooked to a 4L80E four-speed automatic transmission.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires surround custom-fabricated 21-inch front and 22-inch rear alloy wheels, secured with two-eared knock-off spinners. The Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes include body-color calipers and cross-drilled and slotted rotors, with an E-Stopp electric parking brake also installed.

Kindig-It didn’t skimp on the interior, either, with nicely done bucket seats covered in Pebble Stone leather, Vintage Air heating and air conditioning system, custom body-color dash, Dakota Digital instruments, including 140-mph speedometer with digital readouts, tachometer, and auxiliary gauges, and a modern sound system with a Kicker subwoofer and AudioControl digital sound processor with Bluetooth.

Don’t miss the walk-around video that includes some drive-bys so you can enjoy the sounds from that luscious V8.
