[VIDEO] Doug DeMuro Drives and Reviews the 2023 Corvette Z06

Automotive reviewer extraordinaire Doug DeMuro is back for another review of the 2023 Corvette Z06. He reviewed the car a year ago when it was revealed at the Petersen Museum last year, but now he has a Z06 with the Z07 Performance Package where he can give his impressions from driving it as well.

If you follow Doug’s reviews, you know they are both thorough and informative as he offers a walk-around of the car and covers all the equipment and features available. At the end, he always offers a “DOUGSCORE” which is a great way to compare the car to other reviews he has done.

As we mentioned, this is the first time Doug gets to drive the car, and of course, it’s raining. He comments that when he originally tested the 2020 Stingray, it was raining then as well. But the rain doesn’t dampen his spirits here as he explains he’s coming from a mindset that already appreciates what Chevy has done with the C8 Stingray, and so he is anxious to see if Chevy is able to improve upon it.

During his drive, he talks about the Corvette Z06 is so very focused on the performance that it offers, and that it might not be for everyone. He taps into the sound of the flat plane crank V8 and how it harkens back to the days without turbochargers or superchargers.

“Acceleration. Next thing to talk about is the absolutely brutal, unbelievable incredible, acceleration. 0-60 in the high Twos, it feels every bit that fast. I’ve done that 0-60 time before in some electric cars. Those cars feel even more insane because of the way that they deliver power, which is like instant at the very beginning power just is thrown at you. This car has to build it, but it still feels unbelievably fast to a level that’s almost hard to describe compared to basically any other car.”

Handling is also discussed and Doug uses the description of supercar handling to describe it. “I drive a lot of sports cars that try to emulate that steering precision that supercars have,” says Doug. “This is maybe one of the very first that I’ve encountered that really has super car leveled steering precision.”

Finally, Doug says his only real drawback for the car is pricing, but he makes the distinction that Chevy probably has it priced right at $110,000, but that the secondary market is where the price explodes and many may be paying $50K, $75K or even $100K over sticker. Doug says:

“Given the excellent performance of the standard C8, I just have trouble getting there mentally. I’m just not sure that this car is that much better than a regular C8 given where Chevy has them priced.”

As for the DOUGSCORE, the Z06 earned a rating of 66 which is two points higher than the C8 Stingray he reviewed in 2020. That 66 score ties the 2020 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 and is just one point behind the 2022 Porsche Cayman GT4RS and the 2020 Porsche 911 C2S Manual. The top DOUGSCORE car is actually a tie at 71 between the McLaren Senna and a 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
