If you don’t like to be the center of attention, you might not want to climb behind the wheel of this 1995 Corvette convertible Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Edition being auctioned off at no reserve on Bring a Trailer.

For only the third time in history, the Corvette was chosen to pace the legendary race in 1995, and Chevy made sure everyone knew a Pace Car was coming by creating a distinctive Dark Purple over white exterior (with white ragtop) separated by a red stripe wrapped around the nose and fenders, accented by a flowing black and white banner down the side. Inside was a black and purple leather interior with Indy 500 logos embroidered on the headrests.

It was the first time Bowling Green had made a two-tone Corvette since 1987 and the 527 units marked the second-lowest production special edition since the 50 Malcolm Konner cars in 1986.

Some 23 of those were listed as exports, including this one said to be a Canadian-market example imported to the U.S. in 1995.

This car is practically brand new, with only 1,600 miles on the odometer, and the seller – who bought it in 2016 – has added only 10 of those miles during his ownership.

All of the ’95 Pace Car Replicas were identically built, including a special Indy decal package and Indy emblems. Other standard equipment included the 300-horsepower LT1 engine, four-speed automatic transmission, 9.5-inch front and rear Argent ZR-1 wheels, coated ZR-1 rotors, electronic air conditioning, power driver and passenger seats, and Delco/Bose Music System with AM/FM radio, cassette tape, and CD player.

With less than one day left in the auction, the current bid has hit $19,000 – not bad considering a fully loaded version of the Pace Car could cost more than $51,500 back in the day.

  1. Anyone know why these ‘95 pace cars don’t bring much money if they have been driven? They don’t seem to sell for much more than a nice red one. I have a beautifully kept ‘95 pace car driver with a big load of documentation and memorabilia, and there seems to be zero interest.

  2. The ’95 pace car is a prime example of a older person design. I always found it fun how the Corvette team can add a few decals and with virtually no changes to the car and ask 5k+ more for the car.
