Corvettes for Sale: 1964 Corvette Convertible on Hemmings

This 1964 Corvette convertible has been in the same family since the early ’70s, when the seller’s father added several custom touches popular during the era.

Now his son hopes to find a new owner who loved it like his father did. He’s advertising it on Hemmings.com with an asking price of $34,000 and could be close to making a deal since the highest offer has just reached $33,750 this morning.

His father was the second owner of this vintage Sting Ray, the seller believes, and was responsible for the customized touches that included glass-in headlights that have been relocated behind a tube grille, removal of the front bumper, and triple taillights on each side. A receipt from 1977 also shows that a 350 LT1 Super Stock OHV V8 engine bored .30 over was installed, along with an Edelbrock performance manifold, Melling C-400P Performance camshaft, Holley 750-cfm “double pumper” carburetor, and tubular exhaust headers.

The car still performs well, the seller says, with two throttle pumps all that’s needed for cold starts. He says the high volume oil pump creates only minor stains after long storage periods, and the four-speed manual transmission shifts well with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter.

“It was designed from engine to rear end (with 4.56:1 gears) to be impressively quick off the line,” the seller adds.

New rear springs were installed about 15 years ago and don’t leak, but the seller believes it would be a good idea to replace the bushings.

Meanwhile, the brakes are good and the power steering doesn’t leak, but he admits there is “minor steering play” though it “feels good at speed.”

New tires are also on the replacement list as the Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires on the car are believed to be more than 10 years old. A new owner would also have a decision to make about the replacement late-70s Corvette wheels currently in place.

The exterior of the car features a “5 out of 10” dark blue paint job, in the seller’s estimation, with the last paint job believed to have done in the ’70s. Now “spider webbing” has appeared, and there is minor fiberglass damage on the driver’s door and small paint chips around the hardtop mounting holes. Being stored indoors and in a dry desert climate has helped keep the glass, seals, and frame in good shape, with the seller reporting there is “no known rust.”

Inside, the car could definitely use new seat covers and carpet, but all the gauges and original stereo are described as good. The heater still functions, but the car is not outfitted with air conditioning.

What direction would you take with this altered Sting Ray?
