Corvettes for Sale: Barn Find 1955 Corvette

While the 1955 Corvette marked the debut of the more powerful V8 engine, the increased output still wasn’t enough to spur a sales increase.

In fact, after 300 Corvettes had been built in 1953 and another 3,460 the next year, only 700 units wound up being assembled at the St. Louis factory in ’55 because more than 1,100 ’54s were left over at the model year changeover.

One of these rare ’55s has just emerged from “many years of dry storage” and is being offered for sale for $48,000 in San Carlos, California on a website called Rods ‘n’ Sods out of the United Kingdom.

Said to be a numbers-matching Corvette, the car comes with both tops and the original side screens.

Years ago, it was parked for a restoration that never happened, and now the current owner is hoping someone will rectify that situation.

While the car does start and run, the seller admits “it’s been awhile since this old girl was the Heartbeat of America but now it’s back out in the daylight and ready for someone to revive it.”

One of the 120 Corvettes painted Harvest Gold that year, the car is said to have featured a rare green interior though now it has red and beige seat covers and will require much work throughout the interior.

This ’55 appears to offer someone a good headstart on a restoration, though it’s likely a lot of work will still be needed inside and out. Would you be willing to take on the challenge?

  1. That is now a piece of junk. Not worth the money it would take to restore it at this point. I don’t know how anyone could let such a car deteriorate into such a horrible state. Should have sold it a long time ago before it rotted away.
