Corvette Auction Preview - Mecum Harrisburg 2023

If you’re still on the hunt for that perfect classic or modern-day hot rod, our friends at Mecum Auctions will be selling over 1,200 vehicles in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on July 26-29 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. The auction action begins at 10:00 am ET daily and America’s Favorite Sports Car is well represented with 113 Corvettes consigned so far and more are expected as we get closer to the sale.

In addition to the vehicle sales offered, there are also a couple of really cool examples of Corvette Road Art® available for sale on Friday, July 28th with a 1958 Corvette Grille Neon Sign and a 1963 Corvette Split-Window Coupe Rendering by a GM artist that was used internally by GM Engineering. The rendering includes handwritten notes and other documentation affixed to the back of it.

The Harrisburg auction docket shows a diverse group of Corvettes offered for sale, with the heaviest concentration being the C2, C3 and C4 models which make up more than half the Corvettes consigned. In the margins are some great early collectible Corvettes while the later generations are offering up three ZR1s. The auction docket is rounded out with the addition of two C8 Corvette Stingrays. As of this writing, the current breakdown of Corvettes offered in Harrisburg are:

C1: 10
C2: 17
C3: 31
C4: 28
C5: 13
C6: 7
C7: 4
C8: 3

We took a closer look at all the Corvettes offered for sale, and we’re going to be keeping an eye on these three specific lots which we are featuring below. They include a 1963 Corvette split window coupe, an unrestored 1962 Corvette roadster, and a matching numbers 1971 Corvette with an LS5 454/365 hp:

Lot S130 – 1963 Corvette Coupe

1963 Corvette

This 1963 Corvette Sting Ray Coupe is a fantastic split window offered in Saddle Tan with a Saddle Tan interior. Power for the car comes in the form of the optional L76 327/340-hp V8 engine that is paired with the T10 4-speed manual transmission, and the odometer shows 19,516 miles. Formerly owned by an NCRS judge, the Split Window Coupe has been meticulously maintained and serviced over the years and it includes historical NCRS documentation and $66,191.22 in receipts. Recently, the car was repainted in Saddle Tan in 2022 and it also has a new battery and Goldline tires. This 1963 Corvette has won two NCRS Top Flight awards and it was invited to show at the 2019 Audrain Concours in Newport, Rhode Island.

LOT S160 – 1962 Corvette

1962 Corvette

The 1962 Corvette may have been the final year of the classic 1st generation, but engine displacement was increased from 283 to 327 for the model, and a number of styling cues make it unique among the 1st gen Vettes. This 1962 Corvette offered by Mecum on Saturday, July 29th is a highly original and unrestored example, featuring the optional 327/340 V8 coupled to a Borg Warner T10 4-Speed Manual transmission and the odometer shows 39,065 original miles. The 1962 Corvette features a striking combination of Sateen Silver with a Red interior and it includes a white convertible top as well as a painted auxiliary hardtop. The car also includes a rare one-year-only original jack and handle.

S62 – 1971 Corvette

1971 Corvette

Highlighting the 3rd generation is this Black and Tan 1971 Corvette Stingray Convertible that was built on February 27, 1971. The Corvette is powered by a matching numbers LS5 454/365-hp V8 engine which is coupled to an automatic transmission. The Stingray has undergone a frame-off nut-and-bolt restoration and the car looks fantastic painted in Black. Equipment for the car includes factory air conditioning, power steering, telescopic steering wheel, vinyl-covered auxiliary hardtop, factory alarm system, shoulder belts, and a period correct AM/FM radio. Rally wheels and redline tires complete the look.
