Corvettes are known for being light. That’s a good thing on the race track, where every pound slows down the car.
That light weight doesn’t help, however, in the event of a serious crash, like the one earlier this morning in Florida when what appears to be a black C4 Corvette smashed head-on into a much heavier cement truck.
Video from the scene shows the heavily damaged Corvette coupe being towed from the accident scene, with nearly the entire front end demolished.
The driver of the Corvette, who has not been identified, had to be airlifted to Tampa General Hospital after suffering serious injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol says the crash happened about 5:35 a.m. Friday on State Road 674 at County Road 579 in Wimauma, located south of Tampa. The Corvette, westbound on S.R. 674, apparently drifted into the path of an eastbound cement mixer truck that was slowing down for another vehicle turning left.
The Corvette driver was the only person injured in the crash.

It looks bad, but the passenger compartment looks intact.
As sloppy as this chassis is, it is strong when it counts.
Both vehicles have their hoods up…. You can buff it out….
Got to watch out for those crazy ready mix truck drivers.
