You have to feel for the owner of this 2022 Corvette.

One minute, he’s excitedly enjoying his eighth-generation Stingray, and the next he’s trying to escape from the vehicle that’s suddenly taking on water.

According to a report on Facebook from the Aransas Pass Police Department near Corpus Christi, Texas, an out-of-town driver who was visiting the “beautiful flats” in the Coastal Bend area of Aransas Pass mistakenly drove his Corvette into about seven feet of water on July 5. No details on exactly how the driver became disoriented and wound up in the water.

Police say the Corvette eventually drifted off and was totally submerged, though Tow Boat U.S. was later able to “drive” the car back to the shore with the help of giant inflatable bags and no environmental hazard was reportedly discovered as a result of the accident.

Comments on Facebook were not very sympathetic, with one person pointing out that the dealership should have explained “Stingray Corvette isn’t an amphibious vehicle.” Another chimed in: “At Farmers, we’ve seen a thing or two!” Someone wrote that the driver may have been confused, thinking since a corvette is a small warship, it was safe to drive it into the water.

According to coastalbendfishing.com, Aransas Pass – located at the intersection of two major waterways – has a rich history in the development of the Coastal Bend’s fishing industry. The Intercoastal Waterway is intersected by the Aransas Shrimp Channel just off the shore of downtown. This gives Aransas Pass unique access to some of the best fishing in the Coastal Bend in every direction, from San Antonio Bay, Redfish Bay and east to the Gulf of Mexico.

Now the little town can lay claim to being the “Corvette Stingray Fishing Capital of the World.”
