Robert Downey Jr. describes himself as “a gearhead” and “a grease monkey.”
Some of you die-hard car guys out there might be questioning that assessment after seeing the trailer for Downey’s new show called “Downey’s Dream Cars” on Max (the network formerly known as HBO Max, by the way).
The “green new show” drops with the first two episodes on June 22 on the Max streaming service, and a trailer just released gives fans an early preview of what to expect.
“I’m an idea man,” Downey says. “So I enlisted a team of folks to restore my cars in ways that are less harmful to the planet.”
On the series, we’ll see a few of the cars he’s accumulated over more than 40 years of collecting, being decarbonized by ripping out their internal combustion drivetrains. Included will be his C2 Sting Ray convertible that’s apparently going to be “electrified,” as well as a classic Buick Riviera that will get a hybrid powertrain.
“The cars of the ‘60s and ‘70s just make your heart beat a little faster,” Downey explains. “As a red-blooded American boy, I wanted in. Forty-two years later, I had actually amassed a collection.”
OK, so will you be watching him change his classic cars for a “green new world”?

Let’s just ignore the strip mining for the battery ores, the battery displosal issues, the added demands to the electric power grid, lack of charging stations, issues in cold weather (can you imaged the disaster when cars are stranded in snow storms on the interstates, fleeing hurricane areas, etc.). I’m not against electric cars, but the government wanting to ban ICE cars for electric is a disaster in the making.

Make them more eco friendly by converting them to use batteries made from toxic materials mined by child labor, which will degrade far faster than anything in a combustion car, frequently explode into fires that are extremely difficult to put out, and are impossible to dispose of without causing additional environmental damage? Sounds like a great plan.
It wasnt enough for Robert to go vegan and work at a trans bookstore I guess. He had go and mess up his car collection too. Oh well, his cars & his money. We know how he voted for Biden and well, a crackhead for a crackhead. Im glad Roberts clean and nobodys perfect. Hope he finds Jesus.
