GM Design Sketch Offers Potential Future of the C9 Corvette

We haven’t even seen the last of the C8 variants yet, and already General Motors is teasing enthusiasts on social media with renderings that look to be potential C9 Corvettes.

While the renderings posted recently on Instagram from GM Lead Creative Designer Gary Ruiz, an employee for almost 19 years, never mention the word Corvette – come on – what other car could it be?

After all, from the ¾ side view that shows the rear end, we’re getting definite vibes from the C7 generation. Also, the boomerang on the rear quarter panel definitely has a Stingray floating in there, as does the indentation on the front of the door. Speaking of the door, we don’t see a line on the front of it – could the entire front panel lift up to allow entry and exit, kind of an expanded version of the C4, or is that just artistic license?

Featuring mid-engine proportions, the rendering also apparently still has an internal combustion engine, based on the quad exhaust pipes, which is good news for hard-core enthusiasts who aren’t warming to the current EV rage.

GM Authority describes the proportions as “long, wide and low, with oversized six-spoke wheels rolling in the corners, and chiseled features front to back,” with fenders rising to form “narrow, creased peaks.” The glass swoops around the front into the sides, and even more glass likely shows off that ICE engine.

Bottom line: Is this a Corvette you would buy?

  1. No I wouldn’t buy it. I don’t like this concept at all compared to the last concept you showed us that I really liked.

  2. Striking design…..glad it doesnt have the Tom Peters Camaro rear fascia. Would like to see the front end treatment, as the 8th generation is too open and blunt. The sweeping side profile calls for a nicely tapered nose.
