Corvettes for Sale: 1965 Corvette Sting Ray Convertible Hits Craigslist

This 1965 Corvette convertible appearson Craigslist with almost no description, but the accompanying driving video at least confirms that the car runs and shows off the unmistakable lines of the C2 Sting Ray.

Finding out more details about the history of this blue-over-blue example shouldn’t be too difficult to trace down since it’s had only two owners since leaving the St. Louis plant some 61 years ago.

The seller, located in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, calls it a “fully running” Sting Ray, and based on the video, it does seem to move out under its own power without drama. At an asking price of $35,000, expectations should be kept realistic. The paint presents reasonably well from a distance, and the matching blue interior looks serviceable for a driver grade car.

No drivetrain details are provided, but the car appears to be equipped with a 327 paired with a four speed manual. One commenter, RayT, notes that the shift pattern plate confirms the four speed, though the engine shows signs of either a rebuild, a quick rattle can refresh, or a non original replacement. He also points out the missing distributor shield—an easy fix—and considers the car an honest, low spec driver that could be improved with modest effort. He recommends a pre purchase inspection given the sparse listing.

Not everyone is as charitable. Terrry questions the legitimacy of a Corvette ad containing only a dozen words, calling the listing lazy at best and suspicious at worst. He says he wouldn’t bother looking at it in person.

BMH, who owns a ’65 convertible himself, agrees the seller should have provided more information—headlights, engine size, clutch condition, numbers matching status, and so on. Still, he acknowledges the price aligns with current market values if the car and seller are genuine. He notes the soft top looks slightly misaligned and the paint shows wear, but both are typical for a mid $30k driver that doubles as a light project.

For context, 1965 marked the third year of the C2 generation. While the big block 396 debuted that year, most cars—including likely this one—left the factory with a 327. More than 23,500 Corvettes were sold in ’65, with the overwhelming majority being convertibles (15,000). This example retains only the soft top, and its odometer, stuck at 60,000 miles, no longer functions.

Overall, the body appears straight, the paint acceptable for a driver, and the interior consistent with the car’s age and price point. With so little information from the seller, though, prospective buyers will want to verify the mechanical condition and originality before considering the $35,000 asking price.
