[PICS] GM’s Design Center Shares These Early Sketches of the C8 Corvette Z06

The General Motors Design Center on Instagram often shares sketches and other work from their designers with a very nice mix of both current and historic work displayed. But this week we got a real treat as they released four images of the C8 Corvette which shows some of the early design work on the Z06.

One of the constant criticisms of the mid-engine design is that they all look the same. But these sketches show that much can be done to make the various models different from each other. That’s good news considering we still have at least three more C8 models to come in the future (E-Ray, ZR1, and the ZORA).

Of these designs, I do like these two images of the Yellow Corvette (is that War Bonnet Yellow?) done by Casey Swanseger whose name is watermarked in the bottom corner of the image. It’s wearing the Stingray badge and also seems to have an early version of the 5VM side rockers. The front is interesting as well with the crossed-flags emblem actually being embedded into the middle of the front fascia.

These next two designs were done by Vlad Kapitonov who shared these on his own Instagram feed with the comment “Couple Z06 doodles. Drawing cars is fun- but some types of cars are more fun to draw than others ?.”

This first image has a different nose on the front with the bottom splitter really jutting out. On the sides, there is a unique integrated rocker panel that morphs into the wishbone while the rear also has an aggressive lower portion while the rear deck is clear of any spoilers or wings.

I believe this final design by Vlad Kapitonov is similar to the one that was integrated into the Z06’s teaser campaign as an Easter egg. The teaser showed the sketched car from the front while this version shows the view from the rear.
