Now that the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport has been released, Chevrolet representatives have gone on record to say that there will be no more variants of the C8 Corvette. But what about the one Corvette model everyone is now demanding?
No, we aren’t talking about the ZORA which was mythical enough to be featured as our annual April Fool’s Day article.
We are talking about a model that’s a bit more tangible AND production-ready: The Corvette Z06X.
As our friend Mike from the Brink of Speed YouTube channel discusses in this new video, the C8 Corvette Z06 is about to get squeezed by the current Corvette lineup as the Grand Sport X and its 721-hp steals buyers on the low end while the 1,064-hp Corvette ZR1 takes those on the high end.
If the C8 generation is extended past the 2028 model year as many watchers are now considering, can GM really afford to leave the Z06 on the sidelines without a major update? This is one video that you’ll really want to watch!
From Brink of Speed via YouTube:
Right now, the Corvette community is asking for something GM hasn’t built yet—and the craziest part is, the same people demanding it are the ones who rejected it just a few years ago.
In this video, we break down exactly why the Z06X isn’t just speculation… it’s a logical next step.

I agree with you however there’s one more MAJOR peice we want, the Tremac Manual!
I will get the ZO6X if offered for the extra stability and launching power to fill in the gap of low end torque that the FPC design exhibits due to high reving race engine.
Yes it will add weight but it’s the perfect car in my book. We’ll except for the ugly sharp edged body lines that all C8s have.
Hopefully C9 will make it more Ferrari, Maserati or Lotus Evora lines. Like the C5 & C6, just freaking CLEAN & TIMELESS! Plus add vertical doors as the swing is killing me!
@Boywonder71
Exactly! The only C8 that “everyone” has been demanding GM build, since 2020, is one with a manual transmission option.
Yeah yeah yeah, lightweight and manual z06 would be glorious, but for non-track focused buyers, this corvette is the dream.
Makes a great a logical point to the evolution of the car. I’d be very surprised if they didn’t do the Z06X variant. They pretty much have to do it.
I too would love to see the addition of vertical doors. Every trip to the gas station and or narrow parking spots is a challenge !
The Z06 is positioned as a street track oriented Corvette.
As with any track car, weight is a nemesis. As great as the C8 is, it already tips the scales a little pudgge.
Adding the weight that the ‘X’ is counter to the track intent of the Z06.
Im a 3 peddle guy, based on the amount of manual transmission Corvette sales that were on an ever ending downward spiral I can’t help but wonder, just how many ‘sticks’ would get purchased.
It would be eminently unfair to offer a Z06X without offering an SRX. Nor do I care that SRX is a Cadillac moniker, as GSX is already a Buick moniker.
I want an SRX for the same price as the GS starts at. Give us AWD fans something cheaper to start with; especially if we’re now to the point where we treat AWD as a silly “X” to add onto another trim.
I get a chuckle every time I see a comment that quotes “everyone wants”. The Z06X is a no brainer for me bring it on. However, the comment about the manual transmission is not based on reality. During the C7 timeline the average manual corvette accounted for only about 25% of all corvettes built, so to say that everyone wants one is not based on any numbers I have seen. I currently own a C8 Z06 and very happy with the DCT. All of my previous Corvettes, C3, C4, C5 (Z06) and two C6’s were all manuals and I loved them. I do miss driving a manual once in a while, but the DCT is just fine and performs better in any corvette I have ever owned.
@Old Geezer
Infinitives are always going to be hyperbole. But to be fair, a 25% manual take rate was colossal in the industry for the late 2010s.
The only thing we really want is a manual. Come on GM, it can’t be that tough!
GM will make a money loosing EV Silverado that sales are 1.5% when compared to a ICE Silverado. So, a 25% take rate for a stick shouldn’t be out of line.
come on GM , put a dummy clutch under that dash and dummy shifter on the console and shift by wire for these die hards…. all the clutch has to do is what the 2 paddles do today and , make them shift that damn thing , that is what 25% want , like iRan wanting a nuke bomb , give them what they want , or they will but a Ferrari…..lolol
