Corvette Assembly Plant Will Close Next Week Due to Parts Shortage

General Motors confirmed on Wednesday that the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, KY will be closed next week due to an unnamed parts shortage. The work stoppage comes three weeks after restarting from the previous parts shortage, which closed the plant during the week of February 20th.

GM spokesman Dan Flores confirmed the closure with The Detroit News saying, “Our supply chain, manufacturing and engineering teams are working closely with our supply base to mitigate any further impact on production to meet the strong demand for our products.”

GM is expected to reopen the plant with both shifts reports on Monday, March 27th.

The Detroit News also reports that GM’s Silao truck plant in Mexico has also been down since March 4th for a parts issue but is expected to restart production next week.

  1. Geez, what a surprise…..NOT!! Don’t get why GM is so lame in it’s parts procurement. Pretty sad for the biggest in the land. They have sold over a 100k C8’s, imagine what the number would be if GM would have had it’s shit together.

  2. Keith- Please correct me if I’m wrong:
    For the 2023 model year:
the Order Guide was released on March 20th.
    Ordering began on April 7th.
    Production began May 16th.

So, according to this report of yours, if 2023 ordering will end on April 5th, 2023,
shouldn’t 2024 production begin May 16th, instead of the July 4th you’re reporting?

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Just because GM started production for the 2022 modal year in May doesn’t mean they will start 2023 production in May. July was usually the traditional time for the model year changeover, but it could certainly go to August or September, depending on how many orders are still in the production bank. Each of these weekly delays plays into the scenario of the model year being extended. For orders placed in late March (early April as the deadline suggests), those cars would take about 6 to 8 weeks to start production and then it would take another month or two depending how many orders were accepted to build those cars.

  4. My C8 was made Tues 3/14. Does anyone know it they will continue QC during shutdown for existing cars? I was supposed to do museum delivery on the 30th.
